Karen's New/re-invented stitch pattern:
Swedish Lace is the name Karen has given to a subtle lace pattern inspired by a pattern on gloves Karen found in a Swedish Handwork store in the mid 90's.  Karen first developed patterns that were worked in the round for hats, berets, socks and even gloves worked from the top down down with I-cord fingers.  All those winter warmers cried out for a scarf, so Karen translated the pattern to be worked flat in rows.  From there it was a quick hop to make the scarf reversible.
Join us for Karen's class at Knit Michigan. You'll be able to choose from a Ruthlessly Reversible 6 repeat scarf, or a Satisfyingly Symmetrical 7 repeat version that looks great from either side.   Click here for Knit Michigan class details

Is Knitting/Crocheting -an Olympic/competitive sport?
.... You betcha!

Those geniuses at Ravelry have given the stitching world 2+ weeks of bliss. All around the world stitchers are competing as teams and/or individually. Join us and get into the wonderment that enthralls us all every 2 years.

The Rules ~ (From the Ravelry website)

The One Rule To Rule Them All: Challenge yourself by starting and finishing projects during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

What will be a stretch for you: a new technique, that first sweater or pair of socks, something massive, something delicate, finishing that monster in the closet? The goal of the Ravelympics is to support you in expanding your knitting/crocheting horizons. Just remember the one rule: Challenge yourself!

The Cap and Beret patterns are very, very close to being ready for distribution. The gloves are worked from the tip of the fingers down. Each finger is worked individually using just 2 dpns and an I-cord technique that is both exhilarating, and easy.  The live stitches from each finger are transferred to circulars (2 circs, or magic loop) and joined to form the hand of the glove. [The intrepid knitter, may opt to knit the gloves two-at-a-time.] The "afterthought" thumb uses the same I-chord technique worked after the glove is bound off at the the cuff.  Imagine, gloves without dancing with a porcupine.  Try the pattern in either Misti's Tonos Worsted (Alpaca & wool) or Sheperd's Wool Merino.  Amazingly, the Shepherd's merino knits all the way down to a size 2 US needle and is still supple!  The advantage of this is a warmer and more insulating glove.

Amy says: Sounds like an Olympic inspired challenge If every I heard. Just in time for the Ravelympics! Come on Karen, you can do it! Years of training, studying and practice have brought you to another finish-line. Yeah, team City Knits!
