October 2008

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fellow Fiber Fanatics: First, make sure you are registered to vote by the October 6th deadline. We at City Knits (Fisher, Guardian and Mt. Clemens) have caught our breathes after another great Sewing Expo in the 'Burbs. We are excitedly prepping for a sensational needlearts season.  Karen can't wait to see the stitch that she discovered in the upcoming Winter Issue of Interweave Knits. You'll want to check-out the new Alaskan moose bone crochet hooks Karen discovered while in the 49th state (she did not see Sarah.)  Desi is geeked to be doing Sox in the City at the Fisher Building Thursdays from 5 to 8. Our friends at the DSO are hoping that lots of us knitters and crocheters will turn out for Sunday afternoon concerts.  Karen is bursting with ideas for her Wednesday Knitting Design Lab for intermediate Knitters, 6-8 pm at the Fisher Building.  Still time to bring a friend to class and get them knitting for the holidays too!  You'll want to make a special trip later this month to check the new improved Mt. Clemens location. Stay tuned for Grand Opening Celebration Details! Great fiber fabrications await us all.
 Sincerely, Karen
Are You Registered to Vote?
Be sure you are registered to vote in the November election. The deadline to register is Monday October 6. You must register if you have never registered before, moved, or if you've changed your name or address; The essence of our country is our democratic voice, preserved at great cost by our brave troops.  Don't let your voice go unheard on November 4.  For details on registering or applying for an absentee ballot, go to: www.michigan.gov/vote  or http://www.michparticipationproject.org/register-to-vote
Sewing Expo Recovery
 We're (mostly) recovered from the Sewing Expo. Thanks to all who found us in Novi, and  a special thanks to our  dear regular customers who survived the expo-related chaos in our other locations. All the goodies we ordered for Expo are now available for your shopping and gift planning pleasure.
New Pattern Stitch Premiers
Interweave Knits Winter issue is due out at the end of November and includes Karen's cool new stitch in a fun earflap helmet.  We're bringing in Sheepshop's soft and luscious two ply wool yarn that Karen  used  for the hat in the magazine.  You'll want to knit at least one.
Alaskan Moose Bone Treasures.
A very special find from Karen's recent trip to Alaska:  Hand carved moose bone crochet hooks and shawl sticks.  The artist's family brings him bones from the moose the family harvests for subsistence.  He boils the bones twice, carves them into one of a kind crochet hooks and stick pins.   Finely polished, these objects glow like fine ivory.  Karen hand selected the very best for your crocheting and wearing pleasure.
Knitters' Design Lab with Karen
Karen is finally back from gathering ideas in Norway, Sweden and Alaska. She is eager to share them with intermediate knitters on Wednesdays at the Fisher Building 6-8 pm. This class is basically a design lab for accomplished knitters who want to try the next new thing. Toe up socks, the new helmet hat, cabled intarsia in a great handbag, Kristine's cape Revisited and the cable-point cardigan are some of the options that adventurous knitters can tackle with Karen.
Knitting with the DSO is back:
 Again our friends at Orchestra Hall in Detroit are offering you an elegant musical interlude on selected Sunday Afternoons with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
