Next Monday we will celebrate the accomplishments of our spring sports student athletes both on the field and in the classroom. The 2011 Spring Sports Awards will be in the gym from 7:30 to 9:00PM on Monday night. Coaches, parents and student athletes from all grades are invited to attend! |
SPRING SHOWCASE - May 26th - 6:30PM
Mark your calendars for SPRING SHOWCASE on Thursday, May 26th at 6:30pm. This is an event that was not previously in the music calendar. The music department will be showcasing orchestra, show choir and many solos. Doors open at 6:15 and tickets are $5 at the door and an additional $5 if you choose to have dinner. For dinner you will have a choice of a pulled pork sandwich or chili, a salad and a beverage. This promises to be a fun evening so mark your calendars and plan to be there. |

PARENTS, TEENS and the LAW - Wednesday, May 18th 6:30 PM
The Marin County Bar Association, in collaboration with the Marin County Office of Education, is hosting a free public forum for parents and teens to learn about their rights and responsibilities on issues directly relating to teens and their families on May 18, 2011. This event will be held at the Marin County Office of Education, 1111 Las Gallinas Avenue , San Rafael from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Topics will include: Marin County Social Host Ordinance, Teens, Sex and the Law, Bullying, and Teens, Drugs, and the Law. Discussions will be led by a distinguished panel of legal experts who will share valuable information and answer your questions. REFRIGERATOR NEEDED!
The NUSD Preschool and Early Intervention Program is looking for a donation of a used refrigerator. We would like it to be 18 cubic feet in size and must be in good working condition for their program. If you have a refrigerator to donate, please contact Jill Healy or Tanya Myers at 883-3942. |
WHOLE FOODS GIVES BACK TO NOVATO SCHOOLS
Whole Foods Novato will be conducting a special shopping day on June 14.
All store purchases that day will generate a 5% donation to School Fuel.

Pertussis Booster (Tdap) - Proof required
NO SHOT→ NO SCHOOL
Please turn in Tdap immunization records to the school office NOW in order for students in 7-12 grades to avoid exclusion from school August 24, 2011. Class schedules will be held and students will not be allowed to attend school unless they show proof of Tdap immunization.
NO VACUNA→ NO ESCUELA

RESOURCES FOR TDap IMMUNIZATION
If you have not yet turned in proof of your child's Tdap shot, please do so now to avoid exclusion of 7th-12th graders from school on August 24, 2011. We expect large num be rs of students will try to get their shot in the summer. Lines will be long at the doctors' offices and lines will be long to turn in proof of Tdap on the first day of school-This could prevent your child from getting their class schedule. If your child still needs to get a Tdap shot please do one of the following:
1. Schedule an appointment now to get the Tdap shot with your doctor.
2. If you do not have health insurance or you cannot afford it, you can:
a)Call the Children's Health Initiative at 415-473-3449 to see if you qualify for some programs to help families in need.
3. If you do not have insurance, or if you are underinsured, or if you have a high insurance deductible:
a) Call the Marin County Health and Wellness Center Immunization Clinic for an appointment at 415-473-4400 to get a Tdap shot. They are located at 3260 Kerner Blvd in San Rafael . You must have an appointment!!
4. Return the proof of Tdap immunization to your school office by:
a)Giving it to the school office
b)Fax the proof of Tdap to your school fax number: 415-892-8284.
c)Or mail proof of Tdap to: _SMHS 15 San Marin Drive , Novato CA 94945_. |

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM - June 20 - July 29
The Summer Internship Program provides a 6-week intensive career exploration opportunity for students to gain hands-on workplace skills while learning about a particular career of interest. Students intern 9 hours per week with a local business or organization and work closely with a mentor supervisor. The summer program also includes a Career Management class. Internship applications are now available in the College and Career Center .

IT Training Internship for Graduating Seniors
Free IT Training for 18-24 year olds who live in the DC, MD, or VA, Providence, Boston, New York City, Atlanta, San Francisco Bay Area. Any one with a high school diploma or a GED who are between the ages of 18-24 yrs old and have an interest in IT Refer them to this sitehttp://www.yearup.org/to learn more about this free program. This program asks for a 1 year commitment between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. They provide the student with a stipend and after six months, internships at companies such as Freddie Mac and AOL to name a few. Check out the website. www.yearup.org Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults 18-24, with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, college credits, an educational stipend and corporate apprenticeship. Success of their graduates -- enabling them to move on to full-time employment and higher education Year Up is about providing opportunities for urban young adults to demonstrate their true potential.
We have achieved excellent results to date: · 100% placement of qualified students into apprenticeships · 83% student retention · 90% of apprentices meet or exceed apprenticeship partner expectations · 87% of graduates placed in full or part-time positions within 4 months of graduation · $15/hr average wage at placement

You must be 15 by the start of the program, but not have attained age 19 by the end of the program. Have a desire to work in the outdoors and become involved in the development and maintenance of the nation's national resources.
