No parent or guardian wants to be the last to know their child is "sexting." Come learn more about this important safety concern for our children. This symposium will be moderated by Emmy Award Winning News Anchor Cheryl Jennings. She will be joined by Marin County District Attorney Ed Berberian, JPCC Director Dr. Michael Grogan, local law enforcement officers, staff and students from San Marin High School, Novato Unified School District. "Could my Teen be Sexting?" Symposium - October 28th, 7PM
Advanced Drama Students, Kate Kushnir, Junior Brasil, Cortnay Cymrot, Stephen Jun and drama teacher Ms K will be part of a symposium about sexting and on line chat hosted by Channel 7 anchor Cheryl Jennings. The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7pm at the Marin Office of Education. More information is provided in the School Administration section at the top of this Enews.
Government Inspector - November 1st, 4th through 8th

This great Russian play written in 1836 by the famous playwright Nicolai Gogol and adapted recently by Jeffrey Hatcher will make you think nothing has changed in politics in almost 175 years.

Fall Musical - Little Women - presented by San Marin Music: Wednesday, October 21st!
The Musical version of Little Women will be presented Oct. 21 @ 7:30PM, Oct. 22 & 23 @ 8PM and Oct. 24 @ 2PM in the Emily Gates Student Center . Tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets are for sale in the SMHS office.
San Marin students chosen for Honor Choir
Izzy Block and Madeline Ford will represent Marin County in the American Choral Directors' Regional Honor Choir in November. Both girls auditioned in Santa Rosa and were chosen based on their performance of an Italian Art song, sight-reading, tonal memory and music theory. The performance will be on November 20th at 4PM at the First Methodist Church at 625 Hamilton Ave in Palo Alto . The concert is free and open to the public. |

When you join our local PTSA, you become a member of the California PTA (CAPTA) and the national PTA organizations. CAPTA is an advocate for students and parents at the state level. 2010-11 Reflections Program - Call for Entries
Calling all Artists!
It is time for the annual PTA Reflections Program, where you can showcase your artistic talents in six different artistic categories. The six arts areas are Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production.
The theme of this year's Reflections Program is "Together We Can" Students are invited to design a piece in one of the six art areas that represents this theme. The deadline for entries is December 1, 2010. See your teacher or go to the front office for entry forms and guidelines. Entries may be submitted to the front office on or before December 1st. All entries must be the work of only one student and must be original works and must relate to the theme "Together We Can."
Student works are critiqued against other students in Grades 9-12. Entries are judged at the local, state and national levels. Winners will be selected in each of the six art categories and given Awards of Excellence and Awards of Merit, which are recognized and displayed as part of the national PTA program's traveling exhibit. Participation is open to all students.

Kaiser Permanente in Terra Linda
Students interested in exploring healthcare as a possible career attend presentations by doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. During this one-day event, students learn firsthand about possible career paths and opportunities in the healthcare industry.
Applications are available in the College and Career Center. The deadline to apply is this Friday, October 15th.

About PSAT/NMSQT
PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. It also gives you a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.

Several local grocery stores give back to our schools when you shop. Keep these offers in mind when you are doing your shopping--
Paradise Foods has given back over $30,000 to the Novato schools in the last year. They participate in eScrip, and give back 5% whenever you shop using a credit or debit card that is registered with eScrip.
Harvest Market is running two fall promotions for our schools. They are giving back 100% of all money raised for pumpkin sales to the school of your choice. Also, for the months of October and November they will donate your reusable bag credit and make a matching donation to School Fuel whenever you take your own bags.
Lucky Supermarket gives back 3% for all purchases if you use your Lucky S.H.A.R.E.S. card when you shop. If you don't have card, you can get one from Susan Mathews
Safeway participates in eScrip at rates ranging from .5% to 3% depending on your level of spending. Make sure that you have registered your Safeway club card at www.escrip.com. This registration must be renewed each fall.
Target now sells groceries and continues to give money back to the schools through its Red Card for all in-store and online purchases. You can pick up an application at Target.
