PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new school year!  If your child is enrolled in Physical Education, the following items will be necessary for his/her participation:

1.

A Physical Education UNIFORM, which consist of a shirt, shorts and/or pants.  The uniform is required and can be purchased during class on August 25th & 26th.  Shirts are $15.00, Shorts are $15.00, and Sweat pants are $20.00. You may also purchase a PE Sweat shirt for $30.00 (Do not turn orders into the office; we will collect them during class).

2.

Physical Education Sweats are green with the Physical Education Mustang Logo.  These are the only sweats that may be worn in the Physical Education class.  This is for your student's safety so that all students are dressed alike and we may easily identify who is with the class when outside on fields, etc.

3.

Checks should be made out to "San Marin High School".

4.

A 3 Ring Binder needs to be kept in your child's P.E. locker.  We recommend a ½ inch binder to best fit in the locker.  Binders are not sold at school.

5.

If there is a financial hardship, please have your child bring a note from home.  We would appreciate the note by August 25th.

Thank you for your attention to the above information.  Please call San Marin @898-2121 if you have any questions.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
ALANNA DESALVO RECOVERY FUND-RAISING

The 2nd Annual Alanna DeSalvo Recovery Fund Golf Tournament/Dinner will be held Friday, September 26, at the Stone Tree Golf Course in Novato.  Friends and family are organizing this event to benefit Alanna DeSalvo, the 16-year-old San Marin High School junior who was paralyzed from her chest down after a swimming pool accident last June. All proceeds will go toward her expensive rehabilitation and long-term care.

As it did last year, the event will include golf, followed that same evening with a dinner, the band Crossfire, as well as a silent and live auction.

If interested in helping this determined young lady towards her goal of walking, you can register directly on the event web site:

1) for the entire package of golf and dinner $225,
2) for dinner only $75,
3) for hole and table sponsorships from $500, and 4) to make a donation.
After checking out the web site, please call Eric van Boer at (415) 519-0554, if you have any further questions
SCHOOL FUEL

A BIT MORE HELP STILL NEEDED TO SAVE SCHOOL PROGRAMS!

School Fuel, the foundation for Novato public schools, is still working hard to help fund programs for the 2008/09 school year.

Hundreds of community members and businesses have contributed already, and so far School Fuel has raised enough money to continue funding an elementary music teacher, and one elective class at each of the middle and high schools.  For just a few thousand dollars more, we can also fund these programs for our schools next year:

*  Restoring library clerk hours at the secondary schools so that students have access to the libraries before and after school ($25,000);
*  Funding the school-to-career coordinator at the high schools to help match students with internship opportunities ($35,000);
*  Teacher training for the new elementary (K-5) science curriculum that will be implemented next year ($30,000).

Please take a moment to send in your donation (or an additional donation) as soon as possible.  Every child at every school will benefit.  If you've misplaced your donation form, donation envelopes are available in school offices, the form is available for download on the School Fuel website, or you can make an online donation at --
www.novatoschoolfuel.org/sdonors.htm

Let's make sure we are all doing what we can to keep our students on track next year! For more information call Elizabeth Sleath at 892-4490.
Plan to Kick-Off the New School Year with a Little Shakespeare

This lovely event will take place at the end of the first week of school.  Director Hector Correa promises that this will be a special evening to delight all audiences.  Fifty percent of ticket proceeds will go to School Fuel.  The picnic area will open at 6:00, and the show will begin at 7:00.  Tickets are on sale now.

THIRD EYE BLIND to headline 6th Annual Rock'n Blues By the Lake

Blues By the Lake Foundation is proud to announce that this year's headliner for the 6th Annual Rock'n Blues By the Lake is THIRD EYE BLIND.  This event which takes place Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Stafford Lake, Novato is lucky to have this mainstream bay area band.  THIRD EYE BLIND is hugely successful and their CD's have produced one megahit after another.  They have consistent airplay on radio and have just returned from touring the East Coast selling out venues night after night including two nights in New York City.  THIRD EYE BLIND along with other popular supporting acts will make for another highly successful show.

A very important part of the show are the performances by the middle and high school bands.  San Marin and Novato High perform on the high school stage between the headliners next to the main stage.  On the teen stage, there will also be a Battle of the Bands hosted by FOX Radio following the middle school performers.  The carnival will once again have booths from all the schools and there will be a children's stage with entertainment.

A new addition to the event this year is "GUITAR HERO" and X-BOX.  They will located in the teenage area.  The inventor of GUITAR HERO will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.

Another tricked-out car will be in the silent auction area along with lots of great other raffle items.  Food as always will be from local vendors who are graciously donating at least 50% of the money to the schools.

Novato public schools will be selling tickets for this event at the beginning of school in August.  There will be extra monetary incentives for schools that get volunteers and sell tickets.  There will be Volunteer voucher ticket this year for those who work a 3-hour shift.  Please contact your Rock'n Blues REP for more information.

The Foundation can use as much sponsor participation to support and pay for this years show.  It is also a great way to have your business name out there in front of thousands of community members.  Please call the Rock'n Blues hotline at (415) 897-9383 or send an email to epshopgirl@yahoo.com.

Thank you for supporting the schools and see you at the lake,

Elaine Macaluso
