The San Marin faculty, staff and administration were all concerned about the article about the Swastika on the Hill story in the Wednesday, June 11 edition of the Marin IJ. Craig Pitti, a teacher at San Marin has written a letter to the Marin IJ focusing on everyone's concern about how the story was reported and the assumptions that are made in the article. Craig Pitti read his letter to everyone at a meeting on Wednesday, June 11 and everyone encouraged Craig to sign it from the entire faculty, staff and administration. It might only appear under Craig's name in the letters to the editor section, but I can assure that everyone who works at San Marin High School agrees with the points Craig Pitti has made in the letter.

Once again the good old, supportive Marin County paper decided to take another potshot at San Marin High School (June 11 "Swastika Created on Hillside Near San Marin High"). Our staff and students do not tolerate racial injustice of any form. As Sharon McNamee from the Marin Open Space District stated, "The kids beat us to it", referencing the symbol's quick removal. In fact, a group of students took off on their own before school started to remove it. However, just like past stories, the inaccuracies of the IJ's account were tweaked very well to make it sound like San Marin students were up to their usual "racist behaviors". As the staff of San Marin High School, we are tired of your insinuations that we tolerate racist behaviors. Time and time again, you take incidents that aren't even proven to be connected to our students and sell it as a school event that all of our students participate in. Your great line about San Marin "having a history of racist events" is outrageous and completely irresponsible. You continually go back to the Tamalpais-San Marin basketball incident that took place over 10 years ago. Do you realize that about 20 of our 1000 students even know about that event anymore? We are proud to work with such a caring and diverse population of young adults. They don't deserve to be harassed by you to the eyes of the county through your paper. You may continue your witch hunt to damage our reputation, but we want our students and community to know that we are proud to work at San Marin High School and work with such outstanding young adults.
