III- California Advocacy
AB700 The Creative Economy and Revitalization Act which proposes to deducate 20% of the current sales tax on art materials to the CAC is in "suspense" in the Assembly Appropriations Committee until January. IV- National Advocacy

National NEA Stimulus Funding Update
$4.5 million went to California
Only $75,000 to San Diego
16 orgs applied in SD; 2 got the $75,000  (The Old Globe and Aja Project)

SD Arts and Culture Commission's Victoria Hamilton and Robert Gleason along with Dalouge Smith met with Congresswoman Susan Davis to follow up on these upsetting results. Mrs. Davis is sending a letter to the new NEA Chairman asking for clarification on the criteria and encouraging geography be used as a criteria for future grants.

Also, Arts and Culture Commission is working on getting Robert Lynch, President and CEO of Americas for the Arts to come in early January to meet with SD Arts Community

VI- Coalition Website
Website is nearing completion. It will give the coalition a place to post political candidates' positions on the arts for next elections. 1011 Interactive now has the copy and is expected to complete their work within the next two months.

Establishing a Facebook page for the Coalition was suggested. The website committee will assess this idea to determine the feasibility of keeping it updated.

Free Night of Theatre, Music & Dance

free night of theater
For the third successive year, the San Diego Performing Arts League is participating in a national audience development initiative headed by Theater Communications Group based in NYC.

From coast to coast, one hundred and twenty cities will take part in this program dedicated to exposing the rich culture of performing arts to new eyes and ears.

Performing arts organizations around San Diego County will offer hundreds of free tickets to their performances from October 12 - November 08, 2009.

Free Night of Theater, Music & Dance introduces people to the thrill of performing arts - for free!

Members of the public will be eligible to reserve two tickets to one performance by visiting...(TBA)...starting in early October, and continuing throughout the program.

The mission is to develop new scores of arts patrons, and the means to this end will be accomplished via social media marketing that targets young professional networks, among other various promotional strategies geared towards those that might not  be aware of all the brilliant artistic happenings in San Diego.

Last year's statistics gained from the survey participants in 2008, show that the goals of providing access to non-traditional audiences was met:

83% had never previously attended a production by the company they patronized
33% were under the age of 35
55% were under the age of 45
29% were non-white
32% had less than a college education
32% had income under $50,000

*And in follow-up surveying, 39% reported that they have since purchased a ticket from the company whose performance they attended!

Participating SDPAL organizations this year include: Camarada, Coronado School of the Arts, Cygnet Theatre, Diversionary Theatre/ion theatre company, Fallbrook Music Society, La Jolla Playhouse, Orchestra Nova San Diego, Playwrights Project, San Diego Ballet, San Diego Shakespeare Society, San Diego Symphony, and SDSU School of Theatre.

SDPAL Launches New Movers Mailing Program
mailing SDPAL and The Mailing Group have teamed up to launch a new marketing program utilizing promotional brochure overages.

The new movers list has people who have moved to San Diego from at least 150 miles away.

Studies show that new movers spend more money on goods and services in the first three months than they will in the next three years. Building their buying habits right after move-in can mean earning a lifelong customer. This program will reach them right when they move in!

Quarterly mailings will reach all of San Diego County-- As far south as Chula Vista, Imperial Beach. As far north as Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos. East to places like La Mesa, El Cajon, Spring Valley, Lakeside.

The program is sponsored by The Mailing Group.

This quarters participants included:

Camarada, Orchestra Nova, San Diego Childrens Choir
San Diego Repertory Theatre, La Jolla Symphony And Chorus ,New Village Arts and Diversionary Theatre.
