Market Trivia
This week's question:
What country produces most of the world's maple syrup supply? Hint: this country likes the maple leaf so much, they put it on their national flag.
Answer to last week's question:
The best way to cook vegetables in order to retain their nutrients can vary. You should choose a cooking method that results in flavorful veggies that you and your family will enjoy eating.

Vendor Profile: Your Neighbor's Garden
The GARDEN has been a labor of love since its beginning, when it began as a family project. When Greg (9) and Anne (12) asked Ross if they could have a lemonade stand, he suggested that they could probably make more money selling the excess vegetables from his backyard garden. They started with the produce on a picnic table near the road, and they soon started selling "serve yourself."
Your Neighbor's Garden grows produce on 2 acres, all located within a mile of the Faris home on the northwest side of Indianapolis. In addition to the vegetables grown by them, produce comes from a few other Indiana family gardens. Ross knows these growers personally and only purchases from Indiana growers.
Your patronage helps Your Neighbors Garden and other small growers. Without the recent interest in fresh local product, many of them could not exist. Thanks for your business!
BRFM Note: Ross has been an intregal part of the BRFM's success and growth. Thank you, Ross, for your guidance, support and encouragement over the years.

Sugar Pumpkin Puree
From Everyday Food, October 2008. Also available on www.marthastewart.com
Also known as pie pumpkins, these little guys are in peak season right now. The recipe below is a great replacement for canned pumpkin puree in pies, bars, muffins, and soups (when replacing canned pumpkin with homemade follow a 1 to 1 ratio). Pricewise, you'll pay about the same in the end, but the flavor of homemade pumpkin puree will blow you away!
Ingredients 1 sugar pumpkin (about 4 pounds), peeled, seeded, and cut into 2-inch chunks
Set a steamer basket in a saucepan filled with 1 inch water. Cover; bring to a boil. Add pumpkin. Cover; cook until very tender, about 15 minutes. Puree in a food processor until smooth. Makes 3 1/2 cups.
We want to hear from you.
Let us know how you use your puree on our Facebook page!
