Store Bought Egg Recall

By now everyone has heard about the massive store bought egg recall.  Indiana is one of the states affected by this situation.

Eggs purchased at the farmers market are not affected by this recall.  However, if you have any questions about eggs, from storage to safe cooking practices, please do not hesitate to ask an individual vendor or one of the volunteers at the info booth.

If you choose to buy eggs at the grocery store, please be sure to visit www.foodsafety.gov for instruction on how to verify that they are safe to consume. If you are not certain or have concerns, follow the old advice of, "when in doubt, thow it out".

Looking for something different this week?  Dreaming of a vacation somewhere far off?  Try grabbing some Asian or Indian vegetables this week.  Not sure what to get or how to serve each item?  Just ask; both vendors will be more than happy to give you tips.

Yeager Farms Produce specializes in Asian and Indian vegetables during the summer, including bitter melon and snake gourd. In the fall they will offer a variety of lettuces, spinach, stir fry greens, cooking greens and root crops.  All produce is chemical free and grown using sustainable farming practices.

NuJac Garden offers a variety of vegetables, including Chinese long beans.  For a unique summer salad, try the Tangy Eggplant, Long Beans, and Cherry Tomatoes with Roasted Peanutes recipe found on Epicurious.com.

Supporting Kelly Funk

Thanks to everyone at Slow Food Indy who made last weekend's fundraiser for Kelly a huge success. It was a wonderful afternoon, and we're hopeful it is the first of many events to benefit Kelly and John.

Updates on Kelly's condition are periodically posted on Seldom Seen's website.  BRFM will continue to accept cash cash or check donations at the info booth this Saturday.  Thank you to all who have already donated.  Your support and generosity are truly appreciated.
