Navy SEAL Foundation Receives Exceptional Four-star Rating from Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator announced last week that the Navy SEAL Foundation has earned their coveted four-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. America's premier charity evaluator, Charity Navigator highlights the fine work of efficient, ethical and open charities.

"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that the Navy SEAL Foundation adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way," said Ken Berger, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator, in a letter sent to the Foundation.

According to Charity Navigator, a quarter of the charities they evaluate have received the four-star rating, indicating that the Navy SEAL Foundation out performs most other charities in America. "This exceptional designation differentiates the Navy SEAL Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust," Berger added.

About the Navy SEAL Foundation

The Navy SEAL Foundation provides support in times of adversity and achievement to U.S. Navy SEALs, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen, Naval Special Warfare support personnel and their families. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Foundation was formed in 2000 and underwent a name change in January 2011 when The SEAL-Naval Special Warfare Foundation and the Navy SEAL Warrior Fund combined their organizations. The organization's mission is to provide immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families by:

  • Providing tragedy assistance for families who have lost a loved one in training or combat.
  • Supporting family events to boost morale and encourage camaraderie.
  • Awarding scholarships and providing educational assistance to active duty personnel, their spouses and children.
  • Preserving the rich history and heritage of the Naval Special Warfare community.

Funds Directly Support Naval Special Warfare Community

Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by the Navy SEAL Foundation directly supports its mission, programs and services. The Foundation offers traditional giving opportunities as well as online donations, planned giving and an endowment society fund.

In addition to the four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the Foundation is certified by the Independent Charities of America as a "Best in America" Charity.
