National Organizations Merge to Form Navy SEAL Foundation

The SEAL-Naval Special Warfare Foundation and the Navy SEAL Warrior Fund have combined to form the Navy SEAL Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides support both in times of adversity and achievement to U.S. Navy SEALs, Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen, Naval Special Warfare support personnel and their families. The merger, which took place Jan. 1, 2011, is a natural extension of the two groups' longstanding and close relationship, according to retired Vice Adm. Albert "Bert" Calland, III, USN, chairman of the Navy SEAL Foundation.

"We've brought together two very successful organizations dedicated to supporting the Naval Special Warfare community," said Calland. "The merger makes it easier for families to come to one place for assistance and support, while enabling the Foundation to respond rapidly to their needs."

Headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., at the SEAL Heritage Center , Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek, the Navy SEAL Foundation's mission is to provide assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community during times of tragedy, as well as to provide special events, educational opportunities and projects that honor warriors.

Foundation's New Brand Reflects Strength, Pride and Loyalty

Since the formation of the Navy SEAL Foundation, the board of directors and staff have moved swiftly to develop a brand-a visual representation of the combined organizations that reflects its mission while honoring the Naval Special Warfare community. This month, foundation leaders rolled out the new logo, a blue and gold icon that incorporates images of an eagle, anchor and trident, key elements of the traditional Navy SEAL insignia. A tagline below the image reads:

"Honoring our warriors. Supporting their families."

"The image reflects the strength, pride and loyalty that characterize the SEALs and the Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen, while the tagline succinctly describes the foundation's key charge," said Kristi Cummings, a foundation board director and chairman of its communications committee. "It is a distinctive brand that will serve the foundation well."

In addition to providing oversight for the logo, the committee is involved with the development of a new website with enhanced online giving opportunities, media relations outreach and communiqués to existing and potential donors.

How You Can Help

The Navy SEAL Foundation offers numerous giving opportunities including online donations, planned giving and an endowment society. The Navy SEAL Foundation Endowment Society was established in 2005 with a goal of raising $25 million to perpetually honor and support the NSW community. Donations are tax deductible, and 90 cents of every dollar spent by the Navy SEAL Foundation directly supports its mission program and services. The Foundation is certified by the Independent Charities of America as a "Best in America" Charity. Additionally, a series of special fundraising events are held throughout the country to help underwrite Foundation programs. If you wish to support these devoted warriors, click here.
