Great ideas from the Geek Squad teleconference
AFCP GeeksSome great ideas from the Twitter/Text Messaging teleconference.

1. One publisher has created a controlled Twitter account, which only her sales reps can follow, and of course the all MUST follow. She uses it to communicate quickly with sales reps when they are in the field. Late deals on space, how many spots are still available for a given special promo, etc.

2. A couple of publishers have embedded Twitter readers in their websites on news papers or home pages, which looks like a "news ticker," generating user content.

3. I mentioned that I put something like that on my son's cat breeding website (www.toygerallure.com) along with an embedded spot where anyone with a Twitter account can sign in to Twitter and immediately post a tweet. While it doesn't have to be about Toyger cats, most generally will be, increasing the amount of chatter about these cats and his cats specifically.

4. Groupon.com is trying to create specific lists for text messaging marketing. It's only operational in a couple of major markets, but they hope to expand.

5. One publisher sent a tweet about a pizza deal and got 22 people to respond. Now he's getting $50 each time he sends a tweet.

6. One publisher said they used text messaging to do contests and coupons, which was very successful. Generated specific revenue from the contest.

7. One publisher uses it to promote the businesses who won "Best of..." in their annual "Best of" reader contest.

8. Several publishers are using it to promote their overall business by tweeting messages about what's new in their business.

All great ideas!
