SMC requests you to complete the Postal Service's survey
|
The Postal Service is asking all associations that belong to the Mailers Technical Advisory Council (MTAC) to share an MTAC survey with our members. I am sending you the survey with the link for responses.
Although we feel strongly that SMC's survey information and data will be more useful to the Postal Service in planning how to maintain or grow saturation mail volumes, I have been asked by the Postal Service officials that lead MTAC to share the MTAC and link with our members.
The Postal Service has extended the date for responding to the MTAC survey until July 8, 2009. If anyone has any questions about this survey give me a call.
For those that do not have time to answer yet again another survey, be assured that we will keep pushing the Postal Service to look at the data we worked hard to assemble from our members over the past few months. Thanks.

MTAC Survey deadline has been extended to July 8
|
TO: MTAC Association Executives and Representatives
SUBJECT: REMINDER: MTAC Industry Mail Volume Survey - Due Date Extended to June 17, 2009 As communicated to you this past May 27, MTAC and the Postal Service are co-sponsoring an industry mail volume survey which is viewed as important to understand your mailing plans for 2009, 2010 and 2011. Some mailers have indicated that the June 10 deadline does not allow enough time to gather the data. In response to these comments, we are extending the deadline to COB Wednesday, June 17.
The online tool we are using is called SurveyMonkey which should prove easy to use. If you have not done so already please immediately forward the following online link to your respective members: https://www.surveymonkey.com/MTAC
When forwarding the link it will be useful for you to communicate a few key points to your members as follows:
- The purpose of this initial survey should be considered critically important in determining the very near term future of the U.S. Postal Service and the mailing industry.
- The seriousness with which many MTAC association members will treat this survey is appreciated and it is understood that completing the survey as accurately as possible will involve significant work.
- We recognize that although mailing plans may be uncertain, we are asking for best estimates.
- Individual responses will be kept confidential.
- Detailed instructions are included within the survey itself.
- When developing estimates for questions respondents should know that this survey assumes that there will be no exigent price increases above the CPI, no structural changes at the Postal Service and that the current business model continues including 6 - day delivery.
- Future surveys will follow which will address the potential impact of structural changes.
- We are asking that only one individual for each of your respective company members respond - understanding that that individual may want to review mailing statements and communicate with other individuals within the company.
- Estimated volumes are requested (in pieces, not dollars) for 10 classes of mail where there is usage of these classes, for the Postal Service fiscal years of '08, '09, '10 and '11. FYI each fiscal year runs from October 1 through September 30.
- Respondents should keep in mind that if piece volumes are minuscule for a specific class for their company a relatively small number or even a "0" can be entered as a valid response.
- Respondents may exit the survey and return at a future time to complete it. Completing the survey and submitting it is critically important.
- Once a respondent has clicked on the "Done" button on the last page they may not make any additional changes.
The classes being surveyed are as follows:
Automation/Presort First-Class Mail Business Reply Mail/Courtesy Reply Mail Regular Standard Mail Non-Profit Standard Mail Periodicals Parcel Select Priority Mail Express Mail Bound Printed Matter Media Mail
Thanks in advance for your participation.
