Greetings!
Postal Service to offer "Summer Sale" test; look for more information coming

You may have heard a rumor that the Postal Service plans to conduct a "summer sale."  This is true.  In its efforts to drive new volume, the Postal Service is talking about taking an aggressive and novel approach to pricing this summer where it will add discounts for new volume for some mailers.  This test program will only be available to the top 4,000 customers of standard mail and periodicals.  SMC has been invited to participate in a briefing about the proposal.  Our economist, Toni Crowder, will attend the meeting.  As soon as we have information on the sale we will share it with all of you.

I am not optimistic that this is something that will benefit our members.  Because it will focus on national volumes or postage paid, many of our members that are "big mailers" in their region or community may not be eligible.  It will also be limited to reward volume increases for the limited "summer" season.

Please do not contact my office and ask for more information on this rumor or "sale" at this time.  We have had many requests for information on the saturation Volume Incentive Program.  Once again the webpage for access for information on that program and the application materials is below:

As soon as I have specific information on the sale I will share it with all members.  I am not optimistic that it will be of great benefit to SMC mailers.  But I wanted you to know we have been invited to participate and attend a high level briefing.  We will share the information we get, and program requirements as they are developed, with all of you.
