SMC needs to know when you apply for Postal Service volume discounts
|
On April 10, 2009 and earlier I sent all saturation mailers information about the Postal Service's Volume incentive Program for the Program year of May 2009 through May 2010. I am asking everyone who applies for this Program to send me an email with your contact information. I am also asking you to let me know every few months or so if you have done some additional mail volume or circulation as a result of this Program. SMC wants this Program to continue. We also want the Postal Service to keep dealing with saturation mailers as valuable business partners for the Postal Service. My ability to do this will be enhanced if you can give me some "success stories" to take to USPS Headquarters. Some of you may have told me verbally you are "going to apply." But once it is official, please let me know. Thanks. Donna E. Join SMC for a Postal Update at the AFCP Conference
|
If any of you are coming to the Association of Free Community Papers Conference in April in Myrtle Beach, please mark April 24, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. on your calendar. I will be conducting a postal breakout session for free papers that are using the Postal Service or are thinking about the mail. I will be able to share the latest information on the new rates, the Postal Service saturation incentive rate program and discussions about the USPS offering "sale" rates in the summer. I will also be bringing the latest information I can obtain on our efforts to get the Postal Service to adopt a simplified addressing option for city routes. I will be attending the entire conference from April 23 through April 26. This is a "once in a year" opportunity for me to see my members and get the information I need to represent your interests before the postal leaders. Please make it a point to come to my session or otherwise say hello during the other meetings and social events. Donna E. Hanbery Saturation Mailers Coalition 33 South Sixth Street, Suite 4040 Minneapolis, MN 55402 (612) 340-9350/direct dial (612) 340-9446/fax ana

'Hyperlocal' Web Sites Deliver News Without Newspapers
|
If your local newspaper shuts down, what will take the place of its
coverage? Perhaps a package of information about your neighborhood, or
even your block, assembled by a computer.
A
number of Web start-up companies are creating so-called hyperlocal news
sites that let people zoom in on what is happening closest to them,
often without involving traditional journalists.
The sites, like EveryBlock, Outside.in, Placeblogger and Patch,
collect links to articles and blogs and often supplement them with data
from local governments and other sources. They might let a visitor know
about an arrest a block away, the sale of a home down the street and
reviews of nearby restaurants.
