 Thanks to a little television and newspaper coverage and a whole lot of your word-of-mouth referrals, Elle Marie raised $6500 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation during the month of October. Pink Hair extensions were offered at $10 each with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. Last year we raised $1000 and this year our goal was to more than double that by reaching $2500. With your support we blew that number away! Thank you to all who took part. Your efforts helped support a very important cause.

Are you a small business owner? Would you like to send out e-mails such as this one, but don't know how to get started? Are you intrigued by the possibilities that online marketing can provide but overwhelmed with all of the buzzwords such as Web 2.0, Social Networking, and SEO? This may seem odd coming from a hair salon, but Elle Marie can help!
The Elle Marie ownership team has a diverse range of experience that extends beyond hair and is eager to grow the Elle Marie brand in new and exciting ways within the health and beauty industry. With that in mind, we are days away from launching an all-inclusive marketing company called Glitz Marketing. Based largely on strategies implemented for our hair salon, Glitz Marketing hopes to fill a void for small businesses within the health and beauty industry. Though we will largely advertise in that direction, there are many basic marketing strategies that are consistent across the board for small businesses so we look forward to working with clients in other industries as well.
We are just now finalizing our list of services which include everything from print collateral to press releases to web development and search engine optimization. We only plan to accept a limited number of clients per industry and per city, so for our official launch, keep an eye on http://www.GlitzMarketing.com.

| Top 5 in Western Washington! |
In late September we received an e-mail saying we had been nominated for Evening Magazine's "Best of Western Washington" contest on KING 5 television in the "Hair Salon" category. We were extremely touched and considered the possibilities of seeing where our young salon in the suburbs compared with the rest of Western Washington's elite salons.  So we immediately announced the contest to our guests and before we knew it, we visited the web site and had cracked the special "Top 5" page! We knew that staying there however would be a challenge. There were almost 100 salons nominated. Plus, there are simply too many good salons downtown and definitely more salons with multiple locations (more voting guests). So we held our breath each day. The contest ended Oct. 13th, but the announcement wasn't to come until the 27th. You can imagine our anticipation as we visited the web site that day. Low and behold, there was our name. Thanks to your help, we did it! Of course, the buzz in the salon is a little intoxicating and now we're hooked on contests! Hey, look! 425 Magazine is having a contest...and this time you can vote for your favorite salon AND hair stylist! (hint, hint, wink, wink)

Hollie, I often wonder if any of my day-to-day routines are doing unnecessary damage to my hair. Do you have any recommendations?

Sure, Chris. One common mistake people make is overstretching their hair. Here's one simple step you can do to avoid doing unnecessary damage to your hair: Avoid twisting your hair in a towel after washing it. When your hair is wet it has up to 50% more stretch to it than when it is dry. Twisting your wet hair in a towel stretches it and can cause unnecessary breakage and "flyaways". Instead try piling your hair on top of your head first, then put your towel over your head and twist it by itself.
