Redheads Here to Stay
By now many of you have probably heard the rumors about redhead extinction.  In Redhead2005 news articles, including our very own Seattle Times, cited the Oxford Hair Foundation as a source for a statement that there would be no more redheads by as early as 2060.  Now, a September 2007 article in National Geographic magazine has fueled a re-emergence of the topic.
 
At HowStuffWorks.com, Jacob Silverman puts the hype to rest explaining, "These articles work on the mistaken assumption that recessive genes -- like the one for red hair -- can "die out." Recessive genes can become rare but don't disappear completely unless everyone carrying that gene dies or fails to reproduce.  So while red hair may remain rare, enough people carry the gene that, barring global catastrophe, reheads should continue to appear for some time."
 
As far as we're concerned, if there is truth to the extinction theory, there's no need for alarm.  The skilled colorists at Elle Marie will be doing their part to make sure there are a multitude of hair colors for years to come!
Elle Marie Adds Hawaiian Flair
This fall we are proud to announce the addition of yet another talented stylist to our team.  Shelley joins the Elle Marie family Shelleyafter having spent the past seven years as a cosmetologist at both the Sheraton and Westin resorts on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.  Shelley believes her creative personality accents the quality of work she is able to perform while demonstrating a gentle touch.  During your consultation you will find that Shelley has a soft understanding voice and the ability to listen carefully.  Those traits coupled with her positive outlook on life, guarantee that her guests will want to visit her time and time again.
 
Next time you visit the salon, please say hello and help welcome Shelley to our staff.  And if the recent change in weather is getting you down, perhaps you just need a hint of the 'Aloha' spirit. Working poolside, Shelley displayed her creative expertise by performing various braiding techniques - techniques she'd be more than happy to perform on you.
So.Cap. Praises from San Diego
Recently we caught up with Norma from Salon Sol in San Diego on MySpace of all places.  Norma has almost a decade of industry experience and now focuses almost exclusively on hair extensions.  It's always great to network and share trade knowledge with others in our industry so we took the opportunity to hear her So. Cap. USA Hair Extensionsthoughts on So.Cap. USA's hair extensions products, the same ones used at Elle Marie.  Here's what she had to say.
 
"I've been working with So.Cap. for almost five years and I can honestly tell you that you will not find better hair. I've worked with other hair - some of the top companies like GreatLenghts and Hairdreams.  There's just no comparison, not to mention the fact that they're extremely over-priced. Everyone at my salon spends 8 hours putting them in...but they use Hairdreams and split the bonds so they have to charge extremely high to be able to make a profit.  They also add so much hair that it looks unrealistic. So.Cap. is pretty reasonable and the hair has great body so sometimes less is better.  I've also learned that spliting the bonds doesn't necessarily mean it's better for your client. It's actually worse.  Your client will end up with so many bonds that it will be more unconfortable and she might never want to try them out again.  Plus you'll spend hours putting them in and taking them out from all the matting she'll have and it doesn't mean she'll have more fullness."
