April 8, 2008 Update:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First off - Congratulations to the Rahal Family on the occasion of Graham's record breaking victory in St Petersburg Sunday! Last Saturday, Peter Bryant, the Designer the Shadow and Ti22 Can Am cars visited The Motorsport Collector to sign copies of his highly acclaimed new autobiography 'Can Am Challenger'. |
|
After the signing (and a buffet of Giordano's
Pizza and Foster's Lager), Peter gave a
fascinating
presentation to TMC Customers and Can Am
enthusiasts consisting of a personal review
of his
career in motor racing and some of the
engineering and aerodynamic theory put into
practice in the original Can Am series as
well as on modern
day Formula One cars.
The presentation and 'war stories' didn't end until well past midnight. A good time was had by all. A small quantity of signed copies of 'Can Am Challenger' are available at no additional charge for fhose of you who couldn't attend. $49.95 plus shipping. Click HERE to order. ======= Can Am Challenger by Peter Bryant: Raised in a working class family in wartime London, Peter Bryant left school at an early age to become a breadwinner for the household as an apprentice mechanic in the postwar motor trade. After a weekend trip to Goodwood for a non-championship Formula One race, the 16 year old fell in love with motor racing. Peter started as a fabricator at Colin Chapman's Lotus workshop, then freelanced as a racing mechanic for several teams before joining the Grand Prix circus with Reg Parnell. An offer from Mickey Thompson brought Bryant to the US in 1964. After a stint with Carroll Shelby's growing empire, Peter became a Can Am regular, first with the Dana Chevrolet team, then with Carl Haas before moving on to design and build the Titanium Ti22 and Shadow Can Am cars. Bryant, now a very young 71 years old, works as an Engineering Consultant to the automotive industry. If you are interested in the original Can Am series, 'Can-Am Challenger' is a must-read.
Each replica will be individually numbered. A
July 2008 release is planned. With a
