March 7, 2008 Update:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since last summer, we've been promoting (and eagerly awaiting) the release of a new DVD called 'Can Am: The Speed Odyssey' ($34.95). As most of you already know, the DVD is now several months overdue, primarily due to the additional editing work needed when the planned 70 minute program expanded to 100+ minutes with the discovery of additional original footage.
Can Am DVDs A very exciting trailer for Speed Odyssey is available for those of you who want a taste of the action. Click HERE
Several months ago, we became aware of a second DVD on the Can Am that was in the works at another quality distributor of racing videos. We held off on offering it here until further information was available. Word of that DVD is starting to become public, so to avoid confusion with Speed Odyssey, we're listing it today and will start accepting advance orders. Just click on the title to order.
'Can Am Thunder' ($29.95), will feature author and Can Am 'Guru' Pete Lyons, driver Hurley Haywood, author/photographer Dave Friedman and Shadow and Ti22 designer Peter Bryant (who will visit TMC to sign copies of his autobiography on April 5. Reserve your signed copy of 'Can Am Challenger' HERE). This 80 minute program will feature interviews, tall tales, footage from recent vintage events and images from the original Can Am era.
An April 28 release date has been announced but we understand editing delays may push that date back a few weeks as well. In any case, our order has been placed and we will have it in stock as soon as it becomes available.
From what we've learned about both DVDs, there will be very little duplication. The content of 'Can Am Thunder', looks like it will compliment the strong original footage content we will see in 'Can Am: The Speed Odyssey'. Those of us who are hard core Can Am fans will probably want both DVDs in our collections.
I was reluctant to offer a second Can Am DVD on a pre-order basis before delivering the first, (we all know how these release dates are written in pencil) but the timing is out of our hands. I'm looking forward to seeing both programs and, from what we're hearing, I think you will too.
NEW BOOKS:
March 08 Books
Here are two new books that arrived at TMC this week and an 'early warning' on the release of a third:
- 'Inside IMSA's Legendary GTP Race Cars: The Prototype Experience looks like it might be an interesting read. Scheduled for release in April, we should have a look at an advance copy in a few days. Most books on this subject sell out quickly. Reserve your copy at our pre-order price of $45.00.
- 'Memories of the Bear' by Eoin Young has finally arrived on this side of the Pond. Eoin Young knew Denny well and tells his story with insight and affection. Can't wait to dig into it! $34.95
- One of the most popular sponsor liveries in the racing world is the bright orange of the German liqueur Jagermeister. Their involvement in international motorsports is profiled in this new German language book 'Jagermeister Racing 1972 bis 2000'. With 170 color photos in 180 pages, it's a good reference book whether you speak German or not. $59.95
1/43 SCALE DISPLAY TOWERS:
It's always been a challenge for 1/43 scale collectors to display their models in an attractive and safe manner. Customers have often commented on the 'tower' cases that we use to display our 1/43 scale Minichamps sports car models at the Gallery and at our road shows around the country.
We took those comments and suggestions, added a few of our own, then challenged our case maker JD to come up with a solution. Prototypes and the first production pieces were delivered today. He did not disappoint:
Both Display Cases What JD came up with were two new acrylic Towers that display 6 or 12 of your favorite Minichamps sports or road cars on their 'factory' base. Just slide your models into the Tower using the precisely cut grooves on each side.
Our new Towers have been specially designed to help keep your investment safe and dust free: A sliding panel in the back keeps your models in a near air-tight environment and the extra wide base provides a sturdy footing that makes the Tower difficult to accidentally knock over.
Production of the 6-Car Tower will begin next week, the 12-Car Tower will come on-line in late March. Additional 'tweaks' and accessories are in development (this is high tech stuff, right?) that will adapt the Towers for use with other brand and types of 1/43 models. We'll keep you advised here and on www.MotorsportCollector.com.
In the mean time, we do have a few of each case available for immediate delivery. Just click on the links to order.
Talk to you next week!
