Kerr An Insider's Look at the Glory Days of Racing:

'To Finish First': the autobiography of Phil Kerr, joint Managing Director of McLaren Racing during the team's glory days, has been released in New Zealand.

A shipment of author signed copies is winging it's way from Down Under and will arrive at TMC in the next week or so.

Nearly 400 pages long and well illustrated with photos from the personal collections of McLaren insiders and the artwork of Michael Turner, this is the most comprehensive book yet on the McLaren Can Am, Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 programs of that era.

Phil Kerr joined boyhood friend Bruce McLaren and mentor Jack Brabham in England in the spring of 1959. During a 17 year European racing career Kerr played an essential role in the success of both the Brabham and McLaren racing teams, first as a Director of the Brabham Racing Organisation, then as joint Managing Director and Director of Formula One at McLaren Racing during the time when McLaren became one of the dominant powers in international motor racing.

Should be a great read. $89.50 plus shipping. Click on the title to order.

New Diecast Announcements:

Every February, the major die cast companies announce new models they intend to produce that year and beyond. For 2008, several exciting projects were announced by CMC, Carousel 1, GMP and Minichamps.

Here are some of the highlights:

Brands Eagle Carousel 1: Carousel starts the year off with a bang, announcing a 1/18 scale replica of Dan Gurney's 1967 Brands Hatch Race of Champions winning Eagle Weslake V-12 Formula One car ($159.95) to be released next month.

The Brands Hatch winner - Eagle Chassis 102 - was the first Formula One Eagle to be fitted with the Weslake V-12 engine and was the aluminum chassis predecessor to the titanium Eagle that would win the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa a few months later.

Other 2008 Carousel 1 releases include the Penske Racing Pennzoil March 84C driven to victory in the 1984 Indianapolis 500 by Rick Mears along with selection of other Indy 500 cars as raced by Mario Andretti, Bob Veith, Fred Agabashian and AJ Foyt. Carousel 1 also intends to resume their series of 1/18 scale racing Corvettes. You can check out the whole lineup HERE.

SharknoseMockup CMC: Perhaps the most exciting lineup for 2008 comes, not surprisingly, from CMC of Germany. Shown here is a mockup of their 1/18 scale Ferrari 156 'Sharknose' Grand Prix car. Three different versions are planned, two Phil Hill GP winning cars and a Wolfgang von Trips driven machine. CMC also plans on releasing an all new 1958 Ferrari Testa Rossa, 4 different versions of the original Porsche 911 (originally designated the 901) from 1964 and new versions of existing Mercedes and Auto Union racing cars. You can check out the full lineup HERE.

Minichamps: More than 300 new models across several scales were announced by Minichamps for release over the next couple of years. You can check out the complete list HERE. We did not include the estimated release dates supplied by Minichamps since they are usually unreliable. We are accepting orders on the whole range. Pick out what you like and be patient. They're usually worth the wait.

P4

GMP: Perhaps one of the most beautful racing cars of all time was the Ferrari 330 P4 campaigned by the Scuderia Ferrari and their customers during the 1967 World Sports Car Championship. GMP has announced a giant 1/8 scale ultra high detail P4 for release under their Real Art Replicas nameplate this spring:

The open - top P4 driven to a second place finish at Brands Hatch (behind the Chaparral 2F) by Jackie Stewart and Chris Amon has been chosen for release by GMP. This finish clinched the 1967 World Championship for Ferrari, beating Porsche for the title by just one point. The giant P4s are priced at $3.995.00 and will be produced in a Limited Edition of 330. We have additional photos HERE. You can place an order HERE.

A 1/18 scale version of the Stewart / Amon P4, featuring over 700 individual parts will also be produced by GMP for release this summer. Price is expected to be in the under $300 range. You can place your order for the 1/18 scale version HERE.
