Conservation Story: Pollutant Study in Mekong River Basin
In October 2011 a multi-national team, including ICF, the U.S. Geological Survey, and regional universities, met in Vietnam to discuss data collected in over 500 wetlands in the Mekong River basin in Southeast Asia. The goal of the project, funded by the U.S. State Department, is to identify potentially harmful pollutants to people, and wildlife. Through this project, participants are also completing the most extensive wetland survey in the region, home to the endangered Sarus Crane.
Learn more about this research and the partnerships that makes it possible
Project staff from the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. State Dept., ICF, Mahidol University (Thailand) and Can Tho University and the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam) gathered last fall in Vietnam - representing the project partnerships between government, non-profits and universities.

How You Can Help: ICF's 24th Annual Bird-a-thon!
Establish your own team or sponsor ICF's "Craniacs" team led by ICF Co-founder George Archibald! The Bird-a-thon is a simple way to support the things that matter to you - cranes, nature and the environment - and it's a perfect way to involve others in ICF's conservation work. With your help, ICF receives a pledge for each bird species your team spots. All Bird-a-thon sponsors of $25 or more receive one-year memberships, and prizes will be awarded to teams raising the most dollars and spotting the most species! A team may be composed of one or multiple people and take place anywhere in the world. Teams must conduct their birding during any continuous 24-hour period between April 1 and June 30, 2012. You may bird for as long or as short as you wish within that 24-hour period. Contact Merith Orlowskii at 608-356-9462 ext. 149 to register your team and request an information packet, or to sponsor the "Craniacs." Grab your binoculars and get birding! |
