New Lower Speed Limit on Portion of US-56 in Gardner

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has established a decreased speed limit zone on US-56 between Center Street and Poplar Street in Gardner (Johnson County). The posted speed limit will be changed from 40 mph to 35 mph from Center Street to Poplar Street based upon findings from a recently completed KDOT traffic study. By Friday, August 17, KDOT maintenance crews will have replaced the existing 40 mph signs with the new 35 mph signs on this section of US-56.

KDOT traffic engineering staff conducted a review of US-56 through the city limits of Gardner based on a request by the City of Gardner. After a review of the crash history, roadway geometrics, and speed data on US-56, KDOT traffic engineering staff recommended that the speed limit along this portion of the highway be reduced.
