Dear Encinal Families:
Welcome to the opening of what promises to be a wonderful school year! At this time of year there is great anticipation of what is to come, and as your new principal, I look forward to meeting all of our Encinal Eagles in a few weeks and encouraging them to soar throughout the year. I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning ones. I hope families will share their stories and experiences with me throughout the year.
Every child's school experience is important to me and it is our mission to help each child feel connected, encouraged, and engaged in the hopes that they, in turn, will love coming to school each day. I plan on spending much of my time this year in classrooms and on the playgrounds asking questions and listening to the many beautiful voices who make this school such a great place for kids to learn and thrive.
It's going to be a great year. Staff members are busy preparing for a wonderful first day and an exciting school year full of new and renewed friendships and meaningful educational experiences for students. I'm excited to learn lots of names and to revel in the energy and excitement that the children will soon bring to Encinal.
On a house keeping note, as your family prepares for the start of school, please note a new procedure for all K-2 students. Encinal's office will be mailing all K-2 families the Transportation Information Sheet this week which needs to be returned to the main office by August 24th. This will give our primary classroom teachers time to plan for a safe and organized end of day dismissal on the first day. Ensure your child knows the plan and meeting spot for each day.
Also, please add the Back-To-School events to your calendar and review the Back-to School checklist put together by the Encinal PTO for a smooth transition to the new school year. Please also consider the many ways to contribute to your child's education in the Menlo Park City School District. Our Encinal PTO and the MPAEF are two amazing organizations that truly help create an exceptional school and district. I encourage you to determine the way you can support these organizations to make the greatest impact on Encinal School. Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!Sincerely,Principal Burns sburns@mpcsd.org
