ASISTShuttleASIST Shuttle: Transportation to Laurel - Sign Up by June 1st
from Darcy Leshly, Laurel & Encinal PTO Volunteer

If you will have children at both Laurel and Encinal this fall, one way to solve the problem of picking them up in two places at the same time is to sign up for ASIST (After School Intra-School Transportation). This free service is offered for Encinal 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are dismissed at 3:00pm. Click here to sign up for this free service by June 1st.

The Menlo Park City Shuttle ("White Shuttle") will pick up at Encinal at the back of the 4th/5th grade building and transport riders to Laurel School, arriving at approx. 3:15 pm. Parents can pick up their Laurel student after 2:55 dismissal and then wait at the Laurel bus zone for the White Shuttle to arrive with their Encinal student. Siblings of Laurel students, families living near Laurel School, as well as those in Laurel-based after-school programs may apply for a seat. The shuttle will run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. It will not run on Thursdays nor on Minimum Days.

A lottery will be held to determine seat assignments if there is excess demand for seats. Capacity is approx 25 students. To be eligible for the lottery, you must submit the form by Friday June 1. After that time names will be held on a wait list. Students with Laurel siblings have priority.

Please click here to sign up by June 1st.

If you would like to have a guaranteed seat for your child on the shuttle this fall, volunteer for the ASIST committee. Email Darcy Leschly, ASIST Committee Volunteer

ReEnrollmentNew! MPCSD Mandatory Student Re-Enrollment by June 30th
from the MPCSD Registrar

MPCSD logoAll students in the Menlo Park City School District (MPCSD) must Re-Enroll for 2012-2013 by June 30, 2012. Our schools are severely impacted by increased enrollment, so we are requiring parents to reserve their spot for the coming school year by Re-Enrolling by June 30th.

If you are not planning to return to the District in the fall, please contact your school office immediately!

The District will contact all families by June 8th with instructions for mandatory online Re-Enrollment of every student who will be attending grades Kindergarten through 8 this fall. Even families that recently registered children for Kindergarten will have to complete the online Re-Enrollment since it involves data verification and required annual legal notices and agreements. The District will again be using Infosnap to electronically Re-Enroll students.

The District will send Re-Enrollment information by email to all families with an email address in the MPCSD database by June 8th. If there is no email address on record for your family, Re-Enrollment instructions will be sent by postal mail. If Internet access is an issue, a computer will be available at the Registrar's office. Please note that the databases used for PTO and District newsletters are not the same as the MPCSD Registration database. So getting this newsletter does not mean your email is on the Registrar's mailing list.

If you have changed your email address in the past year, or if you would like to make sure the correct email address is in the MPCSD Registration database, please email registrar@mpcsd.org and include your name, your child(ren)'s name, school and grade.

Thank you for your cooperation with mandatory Re-Enrollment.

Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers!

Thank you to all the families who sent flowers to school on Tuesday morning to create bright and beautiful bouquets for our teachers and staff. Many thanks also to the Head Room Parents and classroom volunteers who gathered and arranged flowers along with Kathy Miller, Kelly Martin, Kristi Waldron, Kim Nguyen, Johanna Cookson and Joni Weseloh. Even some students helped out: 5th graders Elise, Grace and Sabrina helped make a bouquet.

Thanks also very much to MaryAnn Shin for arranging to have the delicious food trucks at Open House. Our mystery shopper just loved the food (and the convenience).

LIbraryMP Library Renovation - An Opportunity to Visit Belle Haven
from Jacqui Cebrian, MPCSD Reading Specialist & Menlo Park Library Commissioner

With my Menlo Park Library Commissioner hat on, I'd like to remind everyone that while the main branch of the Menlo Park library is scheduled to close from May 21st until June 18th for some re-carpeting and checkout updating, the Belle Haven branch of the Menlo Park library will continue to be open.

With my reading specialist hat on I have to tell you that they have a great selection of children's books. With my parent hat on, I'd like to share that it's a fun branch for kids to hang out in. There are scads of plushy puppet animals that kids love to play with and it is too small of a space for them to wander off. There are plenty of book choices and a wonderful librarian. And afterwards, the kids can get some run around time out at Bedwell-Bayfront Park.
