All parents are invited to hear some updates on Encinal School from Principal Liner. As always, Mrs. Liner will be open for questions and discussion with parents attending the event. Refreshments will be provided. Please join us.
PTO Meeting 9:15-10:00am
All parents are encouraged to attend the PTO General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, April 25th at 9:15am in the TERC. The PTO members will be asked to vote on the proposed Executive Board slate for the 2012-2013 school year (click here) and on the preliminary budget for 2012-13. Refreshments will be provided.
Atherton Library Community Meeting 10:00-10:30am

It's not to late - we still have room for you to sign up.
This Thursday is Spingo, the new PTO family fun event featuring science, pizza & bingo at Encinal. Encinal parents can explore matter and energy with their children in the Lawrence Hall of Science "Wizard's Lab" in the large multi. Everyone can also play bingo in the small multi any time, and bring a picnic and have fun.
SCIENCE: "Wizard's Lab" sessions start at 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm -- generally speaking, the earlier session times are intended for the younger students but it is not a hard rule and everyone is welcome all evening. Click here to learn more and tell us which session you plan to attend.
PRE-ORDER PIZZA BY MONDAY 4/23 at 1PM: Everyone is invited to bring a picnic dinner or pre-order delicious food & drinks from Applewood Pizza. The Applewood orders must be placed before 1pm tomorrow, Monday, 4/23. Food will be ready on Spingo night starting at 5:30pm, and can be picked up any time until 7:30pm from the Encinal kitchen in front of the multi. To order, click here. BINGO: Join in fun games of Bingo that will run all evening in the small multi, no RSVP required.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Events like Spingo need parents to help run them. Can you please volunteer to give simple instructions at a science activity table? Click here. High school and middle school students can also volunteer and can get volunteer or Block H points.
SPIRIT WEAR: Spirit Wear will be for sale on campus. Click here for more info.
PARKING: Parking will be tight, so please consider car pools or bike, walk, scooter, etc.

Atherton Library Community Meeting Wed. 4/25, 10am, TERC
 For anyone who has not been able to join one of the previous Atherton Library Community Meetings, the Atherton Library Building Steering Committee (ALBSC) will be at Encinal to provide a brief presentation on the project and participate in a discussion about how the community envisions the new Atherton Library. The meeting will be held after the Encinal PTO meeting, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10 am in the TERC. An update on the process will be presented, followed by an open discussion of what the community envisions for the new library and how the library can better serve parents and children. Announcing: New Principals Selected for Encinal and Hillview
The district is pleased to announce the Superintendent's recommendation for the positions of Principal of Encinal School and Hillview School. Click here to learn more about them. They will be formally presented to the school board at its meeting on the evening of May 8. Pending board approval, both principals will begin work for the Menlo Park City School District on August 2.
The public is welcome to all School Board meetings. The meeting time and agenda can be found at Agenda OnLine approximately one week before each meeting. Board Meetings are held in the District Board Room on Encinal's campus.

We're proud to introduce the slated nominees so far for next Year's Encinal PTO Executive Board. Please note we still have some excellent positions open for willing and energetic volunteers. Serving on the PTO board is a great way to build community within the school, get to know more parents, teachers, and administrators, and feel very connected to your child's educational experience.

Box Tops for Education - Last Deadline This Year Is May 25
If you buy products with this logo, you can help Encinal raise money by clipping the logo from the box and dropping it in the collection bin by the entrance to the Encinal Office. The next collection date will be on Friday, May 25.

Thank You for Making Encinal's 2012 Read-a-Thon a Success!
Thousands of hours were spent reading in March and we're pleased to announce that more than $15,000 was raised to fund books for the Encinal Library! Thank you to all the wonderful readers and donors!
Reading minutes are still being totaled, so stay tuned for news of grade level gift card winners and classroom parties.
A big thank you to Encinal's wonderful Librarian, Denise Healy, for all her support and encouragement of our young readers throughout the year and her valuable help on the Read-a-Thon. Thank you very much to the PTO Read-a-Thon Coordinator Daren Tuchman for organizing the event: planning, publicity, copy-making, paperwork and so much else.

Thank You for Making the MPAEF Auctions, Raffle, and Spring Event Successes!
What a busy couple of weeks it's been, with on-campus Raffle sales, the Online Auction-and Saturday night's Black & White and Spring All Over event! Thanks to everyone in our school and business community who helped make these important MPAEF fundraising events a success! We'll share details about total event revenue and other highlights in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, a heartfelt thank you for continuing to support our wonderful schools! Online auction and raffle participants: Whether you purchased a single raffle ticket or joined the online fray for your favorite teacher's auction offering, your contributions are a crucial part of our spring fundraising efforts! We know it's not possible for everyone to attend the party, but thanks for getting in the spirit and helping us build excitement toward the culminating event. Party-goers: Thank you for attending the Black & White Dinner, supporting the Live and Silent auctions, and donating so generously to Fund-a-Need in support of Jeanie Ritchie Teaching Innovation Grants. Donors and sponsors: We appreciate your many generous contributions, especially those from our teachers and administrators. Now, let the fun begin as we start enjoying all of the fantastic parties, getaways, sports, teacher adventures, and raffle prizes that were part of this year's auctions! NOTICE FROM THE CITY OF MENLO PARK: LIBRARY CLOSURE The Menlo Park Library will be closed to the public for four weeks from Monday May 21 through Sunday June 17, 2012. The library will be remodeling its Circulation area as it updates its data storage and retrieval system by implementing radio frequency identification (RFID). In addition to this update in technology, the carpeting throughout the Library will be replaced. |
