Dear Encinal Families,
I hope that your family is off to good start on the school term, and we among the teachers and staff look forward to a wonderful next few months. This letter is to ask you to set aside some time to help your child during Read-a-Thon and to complete the Encinal Site Council parent survey.
2011-2012 Parent Survey
The Encinal Site Council is conducting a parent survey to get feedback about how the year is going for our Encinal families. I am a member of the Site Council, which is a committee of parents, teachers and administrators responsible for setting strategic direction for school improvement every year. Information from the parent survey is essential for strategic planning, celebrating successes and making improvements at Encinal.
Please click here to fill out the 2012 parent survey before March 11. (Haga clic aqui - version espanol.) All survey responses are anonymous. We will review survey responses and share findings with individual staff members as appropriate. In April, we will publish a report highlighting key strengths and areas for growth. The report will be available on the Encinal web site and in the school office.
Second Annual Encinal Read-a-Thon
Encinal's 2nd Annual Read-a-Thon takes place during the month of March. This event encourages our students to read by asking them to log their minutes of reading during the month -- and reading aloud counts! Students should set a reading goal of minutes of reading each day. The school will recognize the classes and students with the most minutes of reading per grade. Please click here for more information.
If your child would like to take pledges for Read-a-Thon, the information packet sent home also includes pledge sheets for family and friends to support the Encinal Library. The number of students at Encinal has almost doubled over the past five years, and Spanish Immersion has been introduced. We need to add more books to our library to keep pace with our larger student population. Encinal School has developed a 5 year growth plan to expand our Library collection by thousands of books to reach the state-recommended level of 28 books per student and to provide a collection that interests and engages all of our students. Read-a-Thon pledges provide funding to buy books for the Library.
Thank you for your ongoing support for Encinal School.
Sincerely,
Allison Liner, Principal
