The police were notified immediately and all staff members are on alert to report any suspicious activity. The police recommend that any valuables stored in a parked car be secured out of sight and that cars be locked.

CharacterDayFavorite Book Character Dress-up Day Friday 3/9

On Friday, March 9, Encinal students and teachers have the option of coming to school dressed as their favorite literary character.  This is a day to show your school spirit and help promote our school Read-A-Thon. Be creative and have fun!

SurveyAnnual Parent Survey Ends Sunday 3/11

How is your school year so far? Please tell Principal Liner and the Encinal Site Council!

The Encinal Site Council is a collaborative committee of parents, teachers and administrators mandated at every school by the State of California and responsible for setting strategic direction for school improvement. We do this planning based in part on what we hear from parents in our annual survey.

Every spring the Site Council conducts a parent survey to gather feedback. This year our goal is to receive 500 parent responses to ensure that we have a well-rounded sample from which to draw conclusions about what is working well and which areas we can improve.

Please click here to complete the survey any time before March 11. Haga clic aqui - version espanol. Thanks in advance for participating.

All survey responses are anonymous. These responses will be reviewed by Principal Liner and shared with individual staff members as appropriate. In addition, a report highlighting key strengths and areas for growth will be made available in April on the Encinal school website and in the Encinal office.

ReadathonEncinal Read-a-Thon March 1 - April 1

The second annual Encinal Read-a-Thon has begun, and now it's time to Read, Get Pledges and Log your student's reading minutes. It's easy.

Please take a moment to read through the Read-a-Thon information package that came home this past week and get your students set up to log their reading minutes on the forms sent home. If you missed the information packet in your child's homework folder, click here to get the packet online or pick one up at the office. Students who are interested can ask family and friends to make a pledge for their minutes of reading. It is simple and all proceeds benefit our wonderful library!

This Friday is Favorite Book Character Dress-up Day and watch for Book Donation Week 3/19-22. For more information, click here.

March Life Skill: Acceptance/Compassion
Each classroom will read the book: Wilma Unlimited by Kathleen Krull

This is a wonderful story of perseverance and also of acceptance and compassion. Spencer West, who lost both his legs, spoke about acceptance and compassion. One of his suggestions was very simple.  He said curious children often run up to him and ask, "What happened to your legs?" He said their curiosity is fine, but it would be much more compassionate for them to ask his name before blurting out their question. Just one simple step makes a big difference.

How to teach compassion and acceptance at home?  Click here.
PickupOutdoorEdFor 5th Grade Families: Outdoor Ed Drop-off and Pick-up

The Encinal Fifth graders will attend Outdoor Education the week of March 12 - 16th.  On Monday, March 12, students should be dropped off between 8:15 and 8:40 to avoid congestion during the regular morning drop-off.  Luggage will be stored in the small multipurpose room at the front of the school campus.

The Outdoor Ed students return on Friday, March 16. We expect a large number of students, cars, and luggage; so Encinal has arranged for student pick-up at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1105 Valparaiso Avenue, Menlo Park. Please meet your student at 12:30 at 1105 Valparaiso.  The students will not be at Encinal for pick up. Questions? Email Vice Principal Joan von der Linden
