Our Books Are a Treasure
Please note that all library books are due Friday, May 20, 2011. We are conducting an inventory before we convert to a new circulation system in June. So, it is more important than ever to get those treasured books back to the Encinal library by Friday, May 20, 2011. Thanks for helping us get the library in tip top shape for when the students return in August.

Celebrate the cultures of Polynesian Islands

Volunteer now to work beforehand and/or on the day of the event.

Encinal School is hosting its third Cultural Arts Day featuring Polynesian Islands on Friday, June 10th! This is an all day event for the entire school and our committee is planning wonderful experiences for everyone.  

 

A core group of parents is needed throughout the day to help lead the students through the various activities. To make this event successful, we need MANY volunteers who can come for the whole day. Please let us know how you can help!

Decorations:  We are looking for volunteers to help with our festive Pacific Island decorations on campus for the event.  Let us know ASAP if you can help. 
5th Grade Picnic Tuesday, June 14th 9am - 1pm

Save the date! The 5th grade graduation picnic will be on Tuesday June 14, from 9am to 1pm at Holbrook-Palmer Park. The event is sponsored by the Encinal PTO.

Mandarin Chinese after school program to start Fall 2011
Mandarin Chinese class is coming to Encinal Sept. 9!  Classes will run Tues/Fri for both K-2 and 3-5. Registration is open now. More information here.

 

6-week Golf session on Thursdays. Lessons for Grades 3 to 5 start at 1:20pm and lessons for K to 2 start at 1:40pm. Click here for an overview of the golf program at Encinal. Click here to register. Fees prorated for late enrollment.

Membership vote on proposed 2011-12 PTO Board and preliminary budget

PTO Meeting 8:30 am All members of the Encinal School PTO please join the General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, May 25th at 8:30am in the TERC.  The membership will be asked to vote on the proposed Executive Board slate for the 2011-2012 school year and on the preliminary budget for 2011-12. Refreshments will be provided.

Principal's Coffee 9:30am. After the PTO meeting, Principal Liner will meet with interested parents for a discussion. Topic: Reflections on Encinal's Transition to a K to 5 schools. As always, Mrs. Liner will be open for questions and discussion with parents attending the event.

We depend on parent volunteers (like you!) to run all of our amazing PTO programs that support Encinal.  We hope you will consider stepping into one of these important committee chair positions. No prior experience is required and training from the outgoing chairs will be provided. Some positions require time on campus and others can be done remotely.

Giants Game Update
Have you heard the Hillview Band? If not, here's your chance as well as seeing the World Champion SF Giants take on the Washington Nationals at AT&T Park. The Hillview Band will be performing the National Anthem on Monday, June 6. All musicians are invited to join the group on the field if you play a band instrument and can memorize your part! If interested in joining us, please contact Mr. Vaughan directly.


Tickets are on sale NOW for the game. For a Ticket & Raffle form, please go to the Band page on the Hillview PTO website located under Academies/Electives. The form can be printed as a pdf. See you at the game!

Kindergarten Playgroup for Incoming Kinders
 
A small group of parents for 2011-2012 kindergarten students are organizing summer get-togethers. These casual, informal play groups will help families and students get to know one another in advance of starting school. Anyone interested in participating can let the organizers know by joining their Google Group (you can set up a Google account if you don't have one). Click here and select "Apply for membership" to be added to the group.

Our special thanks go to Caitlin and Gloria Darke of Alain Pinel Realtors and Doug Gonzalez of Coldwell Banker for their outstanding efforts in spearheading the MPAEF Realtor Campaign this year. The tireless efforts of these three realtors were rewarded with amazing success. The results? 58 realtors from Alain Pinel and Coldwell Banker contributed over $30,000 dollars to the Foundation's 2010-2011 annual campaign. Caitlin, Gloria and Doug-we can't thank you enough for your tremendous effort in supporting our schools, students and teachers!

ATTENTION ALL 5TH GRADE PARENTS: MPAEF 5th Grade Bash - Last Day of School!  This fun item was sold at the Rock the Foundation event, but tickets still available ($30 per 5th grade student).  The party will include lunch catered by the Dutch Goose, treats from an ice cream truck, swimming in the sparkling Menlo Park City Belle Haven Pool, some games and an opportunity to hang out with their 5th grade buddies before summer break begins.

5/15: Spring Gala Ballet Western Ballet of Mountain View presents Spring Gala, a family-friendly performance featuring excerpts from the ballet Don Quixote and neoclassical works, Sunday, May 15th, 2011, 5:00pm at Foothill College, Los Altos. 5/16: Miss Suzannah, a visitor from the 1850s, is coming to the Menlo Park Library!  Monday, May 16 at 7:00PM. Calling all 3rd & 4th gradersListen to her stories as she recounts her journey by covered wagon from Missouri to California.  You'll be amazed by these funny, frightening, and sometimes revolting tales of life on the Overland Trail, in San Francisco in the 1850s, and in the rowdy mining camps of the Gold Rush.  Be on Time for the 7:00 pm surprise!  The Menlo Park Library is located at 800 Alma Street in Menlo Park. This event is FREE and is made possible by the Friends of the Menlo Park Library. 5/17-26: MC Strikers Soccer Tryouts If you daughter desires to play club soccer, we are looking for a couple more players on our two GU10 girls (born between August 1, 2001 and July 31, 2002) teams for the fall. All interested girls are welcome to come and practice with the teams over the next two weeks. Practices are Tuesdays 5:30-7pm at La Entrada Field and Thursdays 5:30-7pm at Kelly Park. The fall season begins with twice weekly practice the week of August 22nd (field TBD), and games start in September on Lyle Park. Away games range from Burlingame to Mountain View. For more information, please email Steve Foster

 

5/16 & 18: Ragazzi Boys Chorus Auditions & Fall Registration Mon. May 16 and Wed. May 18, late afternoon/evening, by appointment. The Ragazzi Boys Chorus is holding auditions for boys between the ages of 7 and 10.  Ragazzi offers a complete music education for boys through a proven, award-winning choral program.  Boys begin with one evening per week of choral singing and progress through a full course of choral/vocal/performance and theory instruction.  Ragazzi performs its own concert series, sings the National Anthem at a spring Giants game, tours domestically and internationally, and collaborates with other prestigious Bay Area arts organizations.  No previous singing experience is required.  Fall semester registration and audition times: 342-8785 or email. 5/21: Palo Alto Children's Theater Saturday Playhouse Presents the Princess and the Pea Sat. May 21, 10am and 12pm, PACT, 1305 Middlefield, Palo Alto. Performed in the Black Box Theatre, inside the Magic Castle by the Teens Arts Council Company, the Palo Alto Children's Theatre Saturday Playhouse Series of shows is designed for young audiences.  All of the shows are interactive, so the audience helps the actors tell the story with sound and movement.  Suitable for 3 to 6 year olds and parents; playing time approx. 45 minutes.  Tickets $10 Adults, $5 Children. 5/21: Concert to Benefit Free the Children A concert to benefit a nonprofit called Free the Children and its project building a new school in Sierra Leone will take place on Saturday, May 21, at 3pm in the Cultural Art Hall of the Palo Alto Jewish Community Center at 3921 Fabian Way. Performances include youth dancers, bands, vocalists, classical musicians and volunteers from 12 schools. Minimum suggested donation is $10. For information click here or email Eleanor Su

 

5/23-25: Nona Dance Team Auditions Captivating Dance By Nona of Menlo Park invites girls and boys between the ages of 6-18 to register now to audition for next year's Captivating Dance by Nona Dance Team. Click here for details and for information about dance classes. Audition schedule:

Auditions for Novice Team and both competitive teams (Junior and Teen) will be held at the Menlo Park Studio at 1923 Menalto in Menlo Park. Dance styles include hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical/contemporary and ethnic. No experience required for Novice team; 1-3 years recommended for Junior and Teen Teams. 5/23-27: Alpine FC Tryouts Does your child have a passion for soccer? So do we! Your child is invited to come out to spring tryouts to find out more about club soccer, our club's player-centric approach and our professionally coached teams.  Find detailed tryout dates and locations and pre-register online on the Alpine FC website.  

 

6/11: Kelly Park Re-Grand Opening Come join us on Saturday June 11th, 2011, from 12noon to 2:30pm. We will be celebrating the Re-Grand Opening of Kelly Park! There will be an opening ceremony, sports demonstrations, open play on the new field, and fun for the whole family!  To help us celebrate Kelly Parks Re-Grand Opening the City of Menlo Park Community Services Department will be holding their 1st Annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament at Kelly Park starting at 9am. 6/5: Oak Knoll School's 17th Annual Otter Run This year's Otter Run 5K and Family Fun Race to support the PTO of Oak Knoll School takes place on June 5 at 8:30am. Bring the family -- walkers, runners and strollers are welcome! All race proceeds support the Oak Knoll PTO. Sign up online.  

 

Tickets for Palo Alto Children's Theater Hot Dog Suppertime Shows on Sale Now: Shows 6:30pm, Roy Ginsburg Magic Castle Stage at Palo Alto Children's Theatre.  Hansel and Gretel June 28-July 16; You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, July 20-30; Once Upon a Mattress Aug. 3-13. Bring a picnic for your family or purchase hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips and soft drinks from the Friends of the Children's Theatre.  General running time:  approximately one hour. Summer Lacrosse Join us for Grizzlies Summer Ball Tuesday evenings June 21st through August 16th 5:30/6:45 start times. Great time of day to work on skills and scrimmage this summer! Boys and Girls ages 5 - 13 are welcome and the league is open to all Peninsula towns.  Payment is for a series of 6 sessions but everyone is welcome to come to all 9.  See our site for more information or email to learn more
