TOKEN-CYF - Token, CYFDear Families,

While most of us think of September as the end of summer and the start of the school or program year, in the liturgical life of the church we are in the midst of "Ordinary Time", the green and growing season that stretches from Pentecost until Advent, and here at St. Bart's we are green and growing still!

garden 2012 All summer long, we have been growing herbs and vegetables on the Third Floor Terrace as part of the "Abundant Life Garden Project" and this Sunday, September 9, please celebrate with us at a Garden Party at 10 am. Come and greet old friends, make some new ones, enjoy refreshments and hear about all the excitement autumn brings! The food we have harvested has been served to our shelter guests, and the herbs we have sold following the 11 am service have raised funds for Community Ministries and Episcopal Relief and Development for the purchase pf a family share in a community garden.

Blessing of backpacks At 9 am and 11 am on Sunday, September 16, we invite all children and youth to bring their backpacks to be blessed during the service, and we'll tuck in each an olive-wood cross as a reminder of God's presence in their daily lives. Sunday School and Youth Group begin at 10 am, and we welcome back our acolytes at 9 am and the Choristers at 11 am.

We are thrilled to introduce Godly Play as our curriculum for 2nd through 5th grade! We have used this Montessori-based program of Christian formation for several years with children in Prekindergarten through 1st grade, and our teachers wanted to provide a similar experience that's deeper and  richer than what we have previously offered for our older children on Sunday mornings, with lessons that include the foundational sacred stories, parables and liturgical action.

We are beginning a new program on Sunday, September 16 at 12:30 pm: Movies With Meaning, a film series for youth and adults that will be offered on the third Sunday of the month in September, October and November. Our series begins with the documentary "Love Hate Love," the story of three families around the world whose lives were changed forever in acts of terrorism and how they chose to respond. A light lunch will precede the film and Buddy will lead a moderated discussion following the showing. RSVP here.

Other films in the premier season of Movies With Meaning are "Miss Representation" on Sunday, October 21 and "Bullied" on Sunday, November 18.

Yet another new program we are launching this fall is Children's Interfaith Education, a program of The Center for Religious Inquiry at St. Bart's! Classes for children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade begin Monday, Sept 24 at 4:45 pm, and provide an opportunity to celebrate and learn about religion and nurture spiritual growth and identity.

Come grow with us!

Blessings,

Wendy
