Inside and Out

Have you any idea how strong and adaptive the human body is? If you think about it, your body can adapt to almost anything. For example, if you walk outside into the heat, your skin starts to release sweat to help cool you. If you step outside into the cold, your skin pulls tight to hold in heat creating "goose bumps."
Another good example of how your body adapts is when the very skin of your hands develops calluses when you start using tools in the yard or how your eyes water to prevent them from drying out when wind blows in your face.
The human body is indeed a very strong, adaptive structure. Why do I call it a structure? Perhaps because to me, it is really just that, a structure. Your body, as complex and strong as it is, is ultimately nothing more than the place where your true strength resides. You see, inside this great thing we call the human body resides something even greater, the human spirit.
To me, there is no greater human element than the human spirit. It guides us, drives us to greatness and is, in reality, defines who we are.
Your spirit is capable of so much. In some ways, your spirit is magnetic; not pulling various metals to it but rather pulling other people closer to it. In effect, your spirit is what draws people to you and makes them want to be near you. Ironically, it is this same beautiful inner spirit that also is no stranger to pain and struggle.
The same spirit that draws people to you is also the one that has helped you through many hardships in life. It is your very spirit that picks you up when you fall. It is your spirit that makes you take one more step when you were sure that the previous step was the one where you would surely fail.
Anytime you are faced with difficulties, your spirit is what helps you carry on. If you do fall, it is your spirit that picks you up and says "Come on, let's go..."
What you may not realize is that for the most significant changes in your life, the starting point is within. It all starts with the spirit. The changes start there and the endurance to make it through all of the associated strife and struggle comes from the human spirit. In the end, you will be a better, stronger person, both on the outside and more importantly, the inside.
If you are contemplating any real change in your life, remember that it all starts on the inside. Have faith in who you are inside, believe in what you are and never, ever settle for less than the best for yourself.
At Ultimate Body, we specialize in changing the outside. However, we really specialize in helping you change the inside. If you are ready for this kind of change, call us. Listen to that voice inside you saying "Come on, let's go..."

Eating Your Way to a Higher Metabolism
by Wayne Kaya, Lead Trainer
In the December 2007 issue of the Ron Lyons Ultimate Body Newsletter in a piece entitled "Hormonal Metabolism 101," I explained how weightlifting raises metabolism. To sum up, after experiencing intense muscle "burning," your body recovers, raising levels of certain hormones directly involved in fat loss. Further, the more of these hormones that your body produces, the higher your metabolism is. In general, hormones control what and how fast metabolic reactions occur in your body. Simply stated, the more fat-loss hormones your body makes, the more fat calories your body will burn and, thus, the higher your metabolism will be. The article, however, focused on what you can do in the gym to maximize fat burning. However, did you know that you can actually facilitate the building of these hormones a great deal through eating certain types of foods?
Meals containing plenty of lean protein and fibrous type carbohydrates both promote production of certain hormones that rev up metabolism and satisfy your body's nutritional requirements. Unlike starchy carbohydrates, like breads and pastas, fibrous carbohydrates, like vegetables, counteract the action of a specific hormone directly responsible for hunger. Adding, eating enough lean quality protein blocks the assembly of one type of hormone and promotes that of another whose presence in great numbers increases metabolism. Interestingly, although dietary fat is essential in dissolving certain fat-soluble vitamins, consuming these fats neither raises nor reduces metabolism.
Optimize your body's ability to elevate its metabolism by eating lots of lean protein and high-fiber type carbohydrates. Coupled with intense exercise, eating your way to a higher metabolism will help accelerate you toward your fitness goals. | |

I normally open my newsletter with a short introduction to what you will find in the newsletter. This month I want to do something a little different. This month, I want to use this space to express my gratitude to the amazing staff at Ultimate Body.
Each day we work with over 300 people who are in the midst of one of the most challenging tasks many of them will ever face which is to transform their bodies. On the surface the basic operation at Ultimate Body seems pretty simple. What you don't probably realize is that there is so much more going on behind the scenes.
I would like to commend the trainers for leading each class each day starting many days at 4:20 am (a time many of us never see with open eyes) then having the middle of the day off only to come back to work for the second half of the day, usually finishing the work day at 9 PM. They also work as a trainer, a cardio coach, a nutritionist as well as a counselor, accountability partner and even a friend to each of the 300 plus members they see each day. Did you know that the trainers also pick up the grounds, maintain the machines, clean the bathrooms and even take out the trash each day? The role of trainer at UB is so much more than most would imagine.
The average employment term for a trainer is measured in just months. Wayne has been at Ultimate Body now for nearly three years and Joseph has been there for nearly two. That speaks volumes for them and their level of dedication to the Ultimate Body members like yourself. There is so much more that Wayne and Joseph do including handling all of the billing, keeping trainers up to date on their certifications and much, much more. Joseph also has the added responsibility of being the general manager, the IT guy and he is the one who makes many of the forms we use at UB each day.
Leading the Operations Division is Dennis. You don't usually see Dennis because he stays behind the scenes alot making sure that each shift is covered (filling in when needed), he oversees all of the facility maintenance from the AC systems to the finish out and equipping of the new studios. He spends countless hours chasing down heart rate monitors, looking at new equipment and making sure that the daily operations are handled in the most efficient manner possible. Dennis is no stranger to taking phone calls, filing piles of paperwork, interviewing potential UB Team Members and so much more. Many times, Dennis even runs the UB Kids Orientations on Saturdays. Dennis is a "handle it" kind of guy. If there is ever anything I need done, no matter how large or how small the task, Dennis handles it and handles it well. One of the greatest traits that I believe Dennis has is that of being a natural born mentor. Dennis is always the teacher, leading the way from the most menial of tasks to the most complex.
Heading up the Business Development Division is Dima. Each day she guides the daunting task of advertising and promoting Ultimate Body. In the eight months that she has worked at UB, she has had a direct role in creating the UB Corvette, the multi-faceted Stonebriar Mall ads, monthly magazine ads, door hanger ads, the monthly newsletter -including this one, as well as setting up UB events such as the Frisco Home & Garden Show, Dallas Child Cover Photo Event and the 2007 UB Halloween party. Each month she determines the specials and promotions best suited for UB, she heads up and leads the sales team setting goals and expectations and handles most aspects of UB's Human Resources needs including employment ad placement, interviews, applicant assessment and collateral responsibilities. On top of all of this, Dima has a direct role in seeking and conceptualizing new studios as well as creating new class options at UB including the new UB Kids program, Ultimate Brides and many more that are slated for the new UB studio. I know that every aspect of the growth and development of Ultimate Body Studios is in very good, qualified hands.
Teresa is our Client Liaison for both Frisco and Plano. Normally, one person would not be able to handle two studios, however, this is no problem for her. Each day Teresa spends countless hours developing leads, promoting UB at the local Chambers of Commerce and meeting with potential members to help them get started on their life changing program. Teresa is very motivated and always works to excel at each days responsibilities, never settling for just getting the job done. Normally, Teresa comes up with new and exciting ideas to help promote UB within the Frisco and Plano communities.
The newest member of our team is Jonathan. He has not been a part of the UB Team for long, but so far, he is showing the kind of potential to follow in the footsteps of the incredible trainers before him. I expect that in short order he will be viewed as a great trainer at Ultimate Body, helping many people realize their fitness goals.
Ultimately, I am so incredibly blessed and very, very thankful to be surrounded by such a great team. They do so much work and many times they do not receive the recognition that they deserve for the job they do. Therefore let me say this: THANK YOU. I sincerely appreciate you for who you are, what you do and what you bring to the UB Team.

New Frisco Studio Opening For years we have been faced with the question "What do I do for maintenance after I get the body I want?' and we have always helped to transition people into workouts in their homes, in larger gyms and elsewhere. We are excited to announce that within a matter of weeks, we will be opening a second studio on main Street in Frisco called "Ultimate Body II" or "UB 2". This second studio will now handle many maintenance programs, specialty training including martial arts fitness classes, sport specific classes and even our well known Body Basic Training Fitness Boot Camps.
The new studio is immediately across Main Street from the current Ultimate Body Studio. Soon we will announce the opening of the second studio and we hope that you will stop by to see what it's all about. |

Meet Jonathan!
It did not take me long to realize that the corporate world was not for me. I am happiest when working with people on a personal, one-on-one basis. Exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are big part of my life. I have a strong passion for helping people achieve their desired level of physical fitness. I grew up playing competitive sports and know first hand what pushing your body to the limit takes and how rewarding it can be when you achieve the goals you have set for yourself. I went through my own weight loss several years ago, and I know how important dedication, intensity, and accountability are in the process to reach those achievements. Teaching people the way to live healthier is a very satisfying part of being in the fitness industry. I wish to use my knowledge and skills to better the quality of life for others.
Jonathan graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Exercise Science & Physiology. He is also a certified Personal Trainer through NSCA as well as a sports nutritionist. Please join us in welcoming him to the UB Team!
