Nearly everyday in the gym I see people working out, lifting weights, riding spin bikes and generally going through the motions. Unfortunately that's the problem, many of these people are just going through the motions.

You see, in order to actually succeed at something, I believe that you have to get it in your system. To me, you must not only practice the motions, but you have to go so far as to actually believe in what you are doing. You have to feel it, breathe it and ultimately, live it.

This is very true when it comes to changing your life through fitness. I mean, let's face it. Thousands of people in this country are on some sort of "diet." Many people also try to exercise too. To me, most of these people are just going through the motions and will probably never, ever achieve their true potential.

Do you want to be one of those who spends your life forever in the "getting there" stage? If so, then just keep on going through the motions. Ill see you in ten years and you will still be "getting there.

On the other hand, if you are ready to "get there" then the time has come for you to embrace the effort. It's time that you stop going through the motions and start walking it, talking it, breathing it and yes, "living" it. Set your sights on a goal and let NOTHING stand in your way.

Sound crazy? Quite possibly it is, and if you think so, then go on back to your pursuit of "one day" and I'm going to start looking beyond my current goals and onto my next ones because I'm not slowing down anytime soon! Life is way too short to spend it unhappy and unfulfilled!

If you are ready for a change, and I mean a real, life change, then start by believing in your ability to change. Embrace it, breathe it in, and live it. You will be the "you" that you were meant to be when you decide to stop just "going through the motions."

I live by this philosophy and have built much of the Ultimate Body Program around this way of thinking. If you are ready to change your life, the UB program may be the first step. Come talk to us, we can help you start "breathing" it!!!

The first correspondence I got from Ron Lyons was a response to my desperate plea for help. It went like this:

"Barry, I will call you later this morning. I have no doubt that I can help you do this the right way and for the last time."

Ron

Nothing earth-shattering, just some simple, positive words that I would have never have imagined rang so true.

At 283 pounds, I was at my heaviest and most depressed moments of my life. I managed to be diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and numerous other problems for which I have been taking medication for years. Eleven pills at night, 10 in the day were normal. I couldn't focus at work. I had no energy to do anything but lie around at home. Simply put, I was killing myself doing what I was doing.

Even when I finally decided to do something, I struggled. I hit rock bottom in my first workout when after 15 minutes of exercise I was completely tapped out, collapsed and wound up in the emergency room. With every reason to give up, my family pushed me and helped me to find solutions. The first step was finding a cure for my sleep apnea, which by some miracle I was able to do shortly after that low point.

Ron and his staff played the next big part. He was dedicated to helping me and made me feel like he was somebody I could put my faith in. He wouldn't even think of mentioning me not coming back. He's got a great business going and I'm sure he makes a great living from it, but something about him told me he truly cared and wanted to be the one to help me through my problems. It wasn't about the business. As frustrated as I was, I just knew these people could help me and were genuine about their caring.

Now, I know it's been a relatively short time since I've had this new-found focus and I really haven't accomplished anything yet, but after four weeks of working with Ron, I can honestly say I don't ever remember feeling this good. I can't wait to get to the gym in the morning. I feel energetic all day long. I've never been more focused on a goal. Eating right, exercising, just finally being healthy again.

Oh, one more thing. I also can't wait to submit the after picture to the embarrassing one you see here. Sorry you had to be subjected to that.

"You are never too old to start"

by Dennis Sheldon
VP Operations

Whether you're 20 or 90 years old, the time is now to begin an exercise program. Some of you may think that you're too old to exercise but that's not true. You'll see improvements at any age.

A recent study was conducted by Tufts University where participants, ages 87 to 96, went on a strength-training program. Much to their amazement, they all showed markedly improved strength and vitality.

Exercise can reduce many of the adverse effects of aging. Exercise will raise your metabolism and increase muscle mass while decreasing body fat. Through exercise you'll also notice an improvement in motor skills and greater flexibility.

Exercise offers great psychological value as well. You'll see an increase in self-esteem and have a better outlook towards life. It will also help ease depression and relieve stress and anxiety. You'll notice improved energy, concentration and a more relaxed sleep.

Moreover, medical and mental health experts agree that a consistent program of exercise can be an important part of recovery from alcohol or drugs. "Exercise can produce a striking antidepressant effect that sometimes may reduce a patient's need for medication," according to Dr. Harrison G. Pope, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

There are two forms of exercise, aerobic and resistance training, Aerobic exercise is non-stop in nature, The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you exercise aerobically three to five days per week for 20 to 60 minutes. Some aerobic activities include: dance, walking, swimming, stair climbing, bicycling, and rowing. Resistance training or body shaping develops and tones muscle and bone mass. You should exercise all the major groups two to three nonconsecutive days per week. To get started on the road to improve fitness get on the right exercise program for yourself. A proven program and trainer will make all the difference.

That's where UB comes in. Get started now. Call us at 972-712-2120 to discuss how we can help you!!!

The Art of Life

by
Joseph Scott, General Manager

Every once in a while I like to look at inspirational emails that my parents or wife sends me. Reading them allows me to
refocus on what is truly important to me in my life. Tonight I came across this one and I feel that it can be beneficial not
only to me but to others. The author of this is unknown to me:

The Daffodil Principle

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, "Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over."
"I will come," I promised a little reluctantly on her third call. Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised,
and reluctantly I drove there.  When I finally walked into Carolyn's house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy
children. "Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible in these clouds and fog, and there is nothing in the world
except you and these children that I want to see badly enough to drive another inch! "My daughter smiled calmly and
said, "We drive in this all the time, Mother."

After about twenty minutes, we turned onto a small gravel road and I saw a small church.  I saw a hand lettered sign
with an arrow that read, "Daffodil Garden."  We got out of the car and I followed Carolyn down the path. Then, as we
turned a corner, I looked up and gasped.  It looked as though someone had taken a great vat of gold and poured it over
the mountain peak and its surrounding slopes. The flowers were planted in majestic, swirling patterns, great ribbons and
swaths of deep orange, creamy white, lemon yellow, salmon pink, and saffron and butter yellow. Each different-colored
variety was planted in large groups so that it swirled and flowed like its own river with its own unique hue. "Who did this?"
I asked. "Just one woman," Carolyn answered. "She lives on the property. That's her home."  We walked up to the house.
On the patio, we saw a poster. "Answers to the Questions I Know You are Asking" was the headline.  The first answer was
a simple one. "50,000 bulbs," it read.  The second answer was, "One at a time, by one woman.  Two hands, two feet, and
one brain." The third answer was, "Began in 1958."

For me, that moment was a life-changing experience. I thought of this woman whom I had never met, who, more than forty
years before, had begun, one bulb at a time, to bring her vision of beauty and joy to an obscure mountaintop. Planting one
bulb at a time, year after year, this unknown woman had forever changed the world in which she lived. One day at a time, she
had created something of extraordinary magnificence, beauty, and inspiration.  The principle her daffodil garden taught is one
of the greatest principles of celebration. That is, learning to move toward our goals and desires one step at a time--often just one
baby-step at a time--and learning to love the doing, learning to use the accumulation of time. When we multiply tiny pieces of
time with small increments of daily effort, we too will find we can accomplish magnificent things.   We can change the world.

My daughter summed up the message of the day in her usual direct way. "Start today," she said. It's so pointless to think of the
lost hours of yesterdays. The way to make learning a lesson of celebration instead of a cause for regret is to only ask, "How can
 I put this to use today?" Use the Daffodil Principle.Stop waiting; Until your car or home is paid off; Until you get a new car or home;
Until your kids leave the house; Until you go back to school; Until you finish school; Until you clean the house; Until you organize
the garage; Until you clean off your desk; Until you lose 10 lbs.; Until you gain 10 lbs.; Until you get married; Until you get a divorce;
Until you have kids; Until the kids go to school; Until you retire; Until summer; Until spring; Until winter; Until fall; Until you die...

There
is no better time than right now to be happy.

Tips on Adding Zing to Your Weightlifting Workouts

by Wayne Kaya, Lead Trainer
wayne

Are your weight-training workouts becoming dull?  In other words, are you tired of doing the same routines for your upper- and lower-body parts?  When this happens, season up your workouts to remain full speed ahead toward your goals.  Two very simple ways to do this, shocking your muscles into adapting to new challenges, are (1) shortening your rest periods between sets and (2) changing up your exercises.

Regarding rest between sets, if you have conditioned your body to rest a certain time between sets, try shortening your rest periods.  This will create a larger deficit of energy available in your muscles to lift weights, forcing them to tire sooner, making your muscles burn to a higher degree.

One way to change up your exercises is to reverse the order in which you do them for each body part.  For your chest workouts, for instance, if you are accustomed to starting with chest presses and ending with chest flies (tree huggers), try reversing your exercise order by doing chest flies first and ending with chest presses.  For your quadriceps, if you are adapted to doing leg presses followed by leg extensions, for example, try reversing the order.  Make an effort in changing up exercise order for your remaining body parts, including your abdominals.  I can almost guarantee that more than a few muscles will be sore the next day just by simply doing this.

To progress toward your fitness goals as quick as possible during your time at UB, you must discover ways to continue challenging your muscles to a very high degree.  This creates muscle confusion and, therefore, a high degree of muscle adaptation and, consequently, an equally high degree of fat loss and muscle sculpting.  This means that varying your workouts is a necessity.  If you would like further information on other methods to do this, please ask one of our trainers.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this newsletter and for considering my Ultimate Body Transformation Program. If there is anything at all I can do to help you change your life through fitness, please call me at  214-232-0730.

Sincerely,
