Start with Desire
ron143d
Everything has its own form of a begriming. Plants come from seeds, raindrops start as tiny particles of dust and life changes start with desire. That's right, desire.

Before you can expect anything major in your life to change, you've got to have desire. Mind you, i don't mean just the plain old garden variety desire, I mean burning, yearning desire. You've got to want to fit in smaller clothes like you want to live to see the next day. You're desire for change should be as strong as your desire to breathe.

Sound extreme? It is and I know it. And, yes, maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but in all honesty, when you want to change your life or some big part of your life, it all starts with desire.

If you believe that you want some major change in your life, look deep within yourself. Identify the desire that resides inside you. Then, start to put fuel on it. Yes, you can fuel your own desire. Begin by thinking about what it will feel like to accomplish the change you want. Imagine living that different life, the one that you know you should have. Try to see yourself after having accomplished the life changes that you want.

Once the fire of desire begins to burn within you, harness it's energy to fuel your own power to change. Yes, you do have the power to change yourself; you just need burning desire to fuel it.

I don't even have to tell you how the rest works out simply because when you have that strong desire to change burning inside you, you will find a way to make it happen.

If Ultimate Body is the way you choose to accomplish a life change, we are here and ready to help with one of the most unique fitness programs available. A new cycle starts Monday the 28th and we would love to be a part of your life change! Call us today at 972-712-2120 to get more information.

When I think of why I decided to join the UB Studios, the first thing that comes to mind was finally doing a workout program that would motivate and keep me accountable on a daily basis. I am not too different from most of the people that have joined. I was a chubby person all the way up until my college years. I yo-yo dieted like most women and I have tried everything to get skinny during those unpleasant chubby years.

For three months I drove by the UB Studios and looked at the transformation pictures on the website. I had become so embarrassed of letting myself go that I had a hard time even going to 24-hour fitness to do cardio. I finally realized that I needed the UB Studios to get my physique and health back!  From the first day all the intimidation I felt at 24-hour fitness had disappeared. I felt myself remembering what had given me motivation from the start. That inspiration derived from inspiring others that had been a chubby kid or teenager like I had been too change and become a healthy and strong!  I quickly began to jump right into the program and felt myself helping others remain positive and gain self-confidence. I would tell them, "Just being here is a positive!"  As weeks went by I found myself becoming not only a workout partner who lead my partner during our workouts, but also becoming a great leader in the cardio room. I encouraged others to take on the "NO MERCY"  attitude!

It takes motivation, consistency, hard work, dedication, determination and a positive attitude. After joining UB, I finally did it!!

In a few months the sun will be a daily presence and everyone will be sporting shorts and tee shirts again. Those of us who like to go to the pool, enjoy cook outs and generally enjoy summertime activities know that NOW is the time to get your summer body started. Unfortunately, most people wait until the warm weather actually arrives to get started. At that point, its most likely too late to make real progress before the summer is nearly over. Imagine what it will feel like to fit into those skinny jeans, those smaller shorts and to even wear that swimsuit that you want to wear this year. It is worth the effort and time and the Ultimate Body Program is a great way to do it. With the daily food accountability and the structured workouts, you will succeed. This summer can be better than any you have ever had and we can help you make that dream a reality!

If you are ready to get your summer body started, we are ready to help. Go to the UB website at
http://www.UltimateBodyStudios.com and check out what we have to offer!  Please call us to discuss the program at 972-712-2120.

Also, remember that the new Ultimate Body Kids Program starts soon. We have a dedicated class just for kids from 8 to 16 at our Frisco studio. More information about that is below and on the website www.ultimatebodykids.com . If you would prefer to call us and discuss you or your kids fitness goals, feel free to call either Leah or Ron at 972-712-2120.

Be sure and check the very bottom of this newsletter for this month's special offer. Heres to a happy, health and "hot" bodied summer.

"Get Rid of Ab Flab"

One of the most sought after goals at the gym is the ever popular "six-pack abs".  The abdominal region is very often a trouble spot for both men and women because this area tends to be the first place to gain and the last place to go.  Therefore people get frustrated because they have spent hours at the gym doing crunches and sit ups and still have that last bit of ab-flab resistant to disappear.

There are several ways to overcome this dilemma with some hard work and patience.
One of the first things you must realize is that you cannot "spot reduce".  No matter how many crunches you do, if there is a layer of fat on top of your abdominal muscles you will not be able to see that "six pack" underneath.  I read an article by Tom Venuto explaining the theory this way; "Thinking you can 'drain the fat' from your primary storage point is like thinking you can drain the deep end of your swimming pool before the shallow end - can't do it."

Fat loss occurs throughout the body as a whole through proper diet, cardio exercise and weight training.
Fat loss is achieved most efficiently by doing cardio exercise.  Running, biking, swimming, power walking, and boxing are just a few examples of great fat burning exercises.  At least 20 minutes of these heart rate elevating exercises 3 times a week will help burn off that extra fat. In addition to cardio exercise, weight training is very beneficial to fat loss.  Even though weight training or resistance training does not typically elevate the heart rate in the fat burning range, it develops lean muscle which in turn raises the metabolism.  It helps you burn calories at a higher rate even when you are not at the gym.

Finally, no matter how many crunches you do or how much weight you lift, if you are not burning more calories than you are consuming - you will not lose fat.  A lower calorie, balanced diet contributes to over 50% of the combination of diet and exercise to achieve success. Eating several smaller meals will help keep your metabolism up and assist in burning those fat calories.  Be careful not to eat too little as this will cause your metabolism to stall and begin the reverse process of storing fat.

Remember that hard work and a lot of patience will help you get those flat abs or that "six pack" you desire.  Swimsuit season is just around the corner so start planning for what you want to look like at the pool this summer.  Don't wait for summer to get here to get in shape.  Start losing that ab-flab now and be ready!

Childhood obesity is at epidemic levels

by Dennis Sheldon, VP Operations
Ultimate Body Studios

When a group of New York City teens - including one allegedly weighing 400 pounds - sued McDonald's Corp. recently, claiming the fast-food giant caused their obesity and subsequent health problems, many people raised a cynical eyebrow. This is America, after all, where lawsuits over cancer-causing cigarettes or scalding hot coffee result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in victim compensation.

But what makes the McDonald's suit so provocative is that children are involved. Each plaintiff in this suit - which was dismissed by a federal judge in January, but re-filed in February - claims to have eaten the restaurant's burgers, fries or Chicken McNuggets every day for years.

Every day? Who lets their children eat fast food more than a couple of times a week, let alone every day? The answer, apparently, is many of us.

Fast Food Nation

Americans spend more than $110 billion annually on fast food. Studies show that nearly half our food dollars are spent on food eaten away from home. And, on any given day, one in four adults eats at a fast-food restaurant.

Yet fast food is only one factor in the U.S. obesity epidemic. Only 3 percent of us meet at least four of the five federal Food Guide Pyramid recommendations for daily intake of grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat. Less than a third of us accomplish the recommended 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week. And 40 percent of us have no leisure-time physical activity at all.

It's not difficult to see why so many kids are on the path to being overweight. The culture of overeating, poor food quality and sedentary lifestyles is pervasive. But what worries health professionals most are the potentially deadly effects of being overweight or obese, particularly for kids. Overweight children are at increased risk of hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, orthopedic problems, upper respiratory infections and severe asthma.

What We're Up Against

It's a scary scenario, and one that our society has been slow to deal with. We're up against:

  • a food industry that pockets billions of dollars from our purchases of processed, high-calorie convenience food - often in huge portion sizes.
  • a fast-paced lifestyle that doesn't honor meal time as leisure or family time; and
  • a high-tech society in which TVs and computers entertain us, while machines increasingly do our work for us.

Until this changes, health and government officials - including the Surgeon General and the national Centers for Disease Control - are asking

parents to step up their efforts to prevent obesity in children.

What You Can Do

Keeping kids healthy and fit is every parent's responsibility. We as parents must learn what to do and how to make a healthy lifestyle part of our children's lives.

In sports we hire and pay astronomical fees to coaches to teach our children how to play games, soccer, basketball, football, gymnastics, and so on and so on. So how much more should we invest in changing our children's lives so that they may live longer and healthier lives full of self confidence and knowledge?

We as parents also have busy schedules, our own battles with fitness and in most cases lack of knowledge on how to properly motivate and teach our children.

This is where UB KIDS comes in. We have the knowledge, time, and proven motivation to teach children how to empower themselves so that they can change their lives.

The program will be in full swing on February 4th. If you want to help your child down the road to a happy, healthy adulthood, this program can be invaluable to you. Contact Leah today at 972-712-2120 to find out more or go to http://www.UltimateBodyKids.com . Please remember that space is limited since we are starting with only one class time.
Grab Hold of Your Life

The power to break away from an overweight body is within you.  If you really want something bad enough, you will find a way to seize it no matter how impossible you initially may think that it is.  Some of our clients awaken as early as 3:30AM to take a 4:20 morning class.  Others work all night and then attend a mid-morning class sleepy-eyed and tired.  My final example is about a former UB personal-training client of mine whose legs were completely paralyzed.  Training him was a tall order, as I had never trained someone that physically challenged.  After customizing just about every upper-body exercise, modifying his cardio and his abdominal training as well as tracking his food intake, he dropped a significant amount of scale pounds in just ten sessions.  To boot, he did not once complain about how difficult getting out of and into his wheelchair was at the gym, and he would not allow me to help him no matter how often I tried.  In other words, he acknowledged that what he signed up for was going to be difficult, but he did it anyway.

Starting down a fitness path and sticking with it is all a matter of priorities.  To which of the following groups do you belong?

Group A:  People who allow circumstances to dictate their lives, not exercising at all, waiting for the "right" time start a fitness program, but that time never seems to come.

Group B:  People who take control of their lives, trying their best to carve out time to exercise and be happy even though their lives are very busy or they feel they just do not feel up to it

How strong is your desire to become healthy?  How doggedly determined are you?  Take charge of your destiny by rearranging your life to make it happen so that the "right" time will come.  With the right guidance and support, we can help you do things that you may think is impossible.  I oftentimes here things like, "Before this program, I could not do a single sit-up or push-up, but today I can and several of them in fact."  Believe in yourself, and trust that UB will provide the supportive place to free you from that unhealthy lifestyle once and for all.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this newsletter and for considering my Ultimate Body Transformation Program. If there is anything at all I can do to help you change your life through fitness, please call me at  214-232-0730.

Sincerely,
