20 Weeks to a New You! November 2007

It's Time
flyer1

When it really comes down to it, you know that there will be a day that you will have to pay for all of the bad food choices and lack of exercise that you are enjoying. You may tell yourself that you will do it "this summer" or "next month" but that starting point comes and goes and you still haven't started.

Why is it that we put off what we know we want, or better yet, what we know we need? Perhaps it's just a time issue. Maybe it's just being afraid of the soreness that is sure to come. It might even be a money issue.

To me, these are all just small obstacles that can be overcome with a little hard work and time. In fact, with enough desire, any obstacle can be overcome.

Take time issues for example. We all have the same 24 hours a day. If you really, really tried, there is a way that you can fit the Ultimate Body Program into your day. You can certainly find a way to do it for just 20 weeks. Then, you will have an amazing body and less time will be required to maintain it from then on.

How about the fear of being sore? The good news is that we start you out slowly and on machine weights so that your body and specifically your connective tissue can adapt and acclimate at a slower rate. Will you be sore? Of course. Will you be able to handle it? Without a doubt.

Finally, what about money? Getting fit isn't cheap is it? Well, that depends. You can spend thousands over the years on diets, pills, books, machines and gym memberships with trainers and never get what you want, or you can draw the line in the sand at Ultimate Body and get it done for once and for all. We have helped literally thousands of people lose weight and get in the best shape of their life. If you want to do this program and need immediate help financially, we have the ability to help there too.

Ultimately, it all boils down to this: If you want to change your life in a remarkable way, if you believe there is a better life out there for you, it's time to reach for it and make it a reality. Please know that I believe in you and I am here to help you!

There is a new cycle of UB starting Monday but you can start anytime. I would love to have you in my program. You can email me at ron@ultimate-body.com or call me.

UB 10 Week Body Challenge Contest Update
This Frisco and Plano Studio wide contest started Monday October 8th.  Each class at UB (Frisco and Plano) are competing against each other in a race to lose the most bodyfat over 10 weeks.  Juan Carlos 7:30 am class in Frisco had become the "No Mercy" class and from the looks of things, they are truly giving no mercy. On the other hand, Angie's 9:30 am class is really motivated too! It's too early to write off any class yet, but there is some serious competition taking place! Remember, there is a cheat meal with the entire UB staff on the line for the class that loses the most average bodyfat in the 10 weeks!
UB Halloween Party Was a Real Success!
The Ultimate Body Halloween Party was a great success! There was a great turnout and more food than we had table space for. The costumes, decorations, fog, music and friedly conversations were great! Thank you to all who came out and made this event great fun for everyone!!!

New Magic Breakthrough
by Angie Campbell, Fitness Specialist

How many weight loss or fitness ads do you see that promise some kind of "magic" results?  There are magic diets, magic pills, and even magic workout equipment where you don't even have to work out!  You might have even tried one or two of these options thinking surely this one will work, only to be disappointed once again by the promise of magic.  The definition of magic should almost give away the actual results you might see from these slick ads.  "Magic: noun - The art of producing illusions by the use of sleight of hand or deceptive devices."  When trying to achieve good health and fitness results, magic is just not in the equation.

Our society thrives on quick and easy.  This is evident in the number of ever popular "drive-through" windows, convenience stores, jiffy/speedy/quick u-name-it establishments, and even the highly successful marketing tool "the easy button".  However, there is no "easy button" when it comes to health and fitness, not exactly anyway.  Getting fit does not have to be difficult; it does take some time and effort to see progress.  Just one hour a day, 5-6 days a week can bring you noticeable results in as little time as 6-8 weeks!  In the course of 20 weeks I have seen clients dramatically transform their bodies and "magically" their confidence, self esteem, and healthy lifestyle come with it.

The "magic" of UB is not in some kind of super secret diet, pill, or specialized equipment.  The special powers come in the form of nutrition support and accountability, a proven weight training and cardio regimen, team and relationship building, and learning to adopt a healthy lifestyle; all done under the guidance of trainers who actually care.  The magic you receive here at UB is the knowledge and support to transform yourself into the fit and healthy person you can be.  Put down the magic wand expecting something to happen for nothing and create your own magic transformation at Ron Lyons Ultimate Body Studio.

Exercise Routines for Ultimate Body Travelers
Wayne Kaya, Lead Trainer
wayne

A significant number of UB clients travel on business.  They go to different states and sometimes different countries for days, weeks or even months at a time.  Beyond trying to make healthy food choices, how can these professionals stay on track with their fitness programs to maintain the momentum of their progress that they have worked so hard to build at UB?  Well, if their destinations have well stocked gyms and if they have ample time to do their regular workouts, they can simply duplicate their UB exercises to their fullest degrees.  However, some business travelers do not have ready access to well stocked gyms, and further they more than likely have very tight schedules.  As a result of these and other limits, these professionals must exercise in their hotel rooms, for example, in a relatively short amount of time if they are to maintain workout momentum.  All of these things call for a workout program that (1) requires just a few pieces of easily packed exercise equipment and (2) is very time efficient yet effective in maintaining fitness levels.  I aimed this article in helping people in these two areas.

First, regarding equipment, I highly recommend the use of resistance bands because they are easy to use, lightweight and easily bundled up and packed.  Any well stocked sporting goods store should carry these elastic tubes specifically designed for exercising.  Also, they come in different thicknesses, with thinner ones providing less resistance and thicker ones supplying more.  In addition, a pair of three- or five-pound dumbbells can always come in handy, and they also are compact enough to stuff into a suitcase without adding much weight

Last, I am a huge fan of circuit training, one of the most time-efficient types of workouts.  The following is a list of some of my favorite circuit-training workout designs:

(1)  Vertical loading involves doing a set of each body part, going from one part to the next without stopping.  For example, clients could do a set of chest, a set of back, and a set of shoulders in a back-to-back fashion, resting only after finishing the last body part.  Then they could repeat the same run as many times as they want.

 (2)  Compound sets work opposing muscle groups-those on opposite sides of a bone or joint-in a non-stop alternating fashion several times without rest.  For instance, clients can do a set of chest followed by a set of back multiple times without rest.

(3)  Peripheral Heart Action type workouts include alternating between an upper-body part and a lower-body one in a back-to-back fashion several times without resting.  This is another great way to weight train and maintain an elevated heart rate.

Some of the workouts above require just five to ten minutes, whereas others can require up to twenty minutes or longer.  Additionally, clients can mix in with their circuit workouts some intense core and cardiovascular training, designing complete and time-efficient workouts.  This will effectively help them continue toward their goals without losing fitness momentum once they return to UB from out of town.  As always, they should keep their heart rates at safe levels, and they should stop any type of exercise resulting unusual pain.

Don't let the fact that you travel alot keep you from thinking that this program is for you. We are able to accommodate almost anyone's travel schedule as long as you are willing to follow our travel tips for staying on program while you are away. A new cycle starts on Monday the 5th of November. Call us to get started! 972-712-2120

Just Do It
Dennis Sheldon, VP Operations
I'm already in my mid forties and soon I have another birthday coming up. The last few years have been the worst of my life, physically that is. I worked out every day of my life until ten years ago when all of a sudden I stopped. I gained seventy-five pounds and almost became content to be that way.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I played college football and my senior year I got injured, part of my rehabilitation was running. I played at 285 lbs, bench pressed 508 lbs and during rehab I found I could totally change myself. I went down to 220 lbs and once ran a sub five minute mile.

I found my ideal weight at 245 to 265 pounds depending on the intensity of my workouts. My educational background was in exercise physiology and I used to own my own 30K sq. ft. health clubs. I was able to maintain that weight until 10 years ago.
This is where the story changes.

I got out of the health club business and opened some tanning salons. This started my new lifestyle which was a totally sedentary one. I stopped working out, stopped eating right and in essence, I stopped everything. The further out of shape I got the easier it was to accept what was happening to me. The top weight I reached was 345 lbs. (Wow! I just saw what that looked like on paper.)

Ron Lyons came into my salon 10 years ago and we have been friends since then. Ron saw what was happening to me but always gave me words of encouragement to try to get me to do something about it. Ron tried telling me that I was fat and that it was unhealthy for me. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me. My biggest problem was always myself, I would not start because I "knew more than most trainers", really, I was just afraid.

Recently, I decided to overcome my fear and finally get started on a fitness program. I can tell you, hind sight is 20/20 and now I know it is just a simple decision, "Do It." Nothing more complicated, nothing too complex, just simply "do it."

Now I've lost 21 pounds, I feel better, I don't run away from the mirrors as fast. I look forward to my "Body Transformation" and being the person physically I want and know I can be.  I'll update you soon with my progress. In the mean time, maybe you are on the verge of making the decision to just "do it." If so, a new cycle of the Ultimate Body program starts next Monday November 5th. Call us if you are ready! 972-712-2120
