Attitude Really Is Everything!

Success and failure can be boiled down to just a very few things, one of which is attitude. Good attitude, bad attitude and everything in between. Your attitude actually has a profound effect on whether or not you succeed or fail. And, it doesn't really matter what other factors are present. Attitude can be the winner or the spoiler in life.

I can't count how many times I have seen someone with incredible potential approach their workouts with a negative attitude. You know the ones "I am not going to succeed" or "I can't do this or that." These people have a very negative attitude and almost always live DOWN to their negative expectations. On the other hand, those with a positive attitude can do anything it seems. A motivated person with a positive attitude can defy the odds, beat cancer, score the winning score and even change their body and life forever.

So, does attitude really matter? You better believe it does. Charles Swindoll has a unique view of attitude. He says "Attitude keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there is no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me." Could it be said any better?

I have seen men and women, big and small, strong and weak come to the gym to train over the years. The thing that separates the successful from the unsuccessful is always their attitude. Swindoll goes on to say, "The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude."

Remarkalby, you can see how there is a direct corelation between attitude and the REST of your life too, can't you? It isn't just in the gym that a positive attitude can move you forward, but also in your family life, at work and in other areas.

So, how has your workout been lately? How about other parts of your life? Maybe it's time to check the atitude. Copyright 2005 Ron Lyons

It is amazing how fast the warmer months of summer will be upon us. It seems hard to imagine right now, but soon we will be meeting for outside parties, cook outs, trips to the lake and such. My question to you is, how will this summer be for you. Will it be another one of cover-ups and t-shirts at the pool or will you be proud to show off all the hard work and dedication you have put into our body? Time is of the essence. Spring will be too late to start if you want a summer to remember!

I hope you enjoy this latest issue of my newsletter. In this issue we talk about attitude, pizza and a few other things. Please forward it to anyone you think would be able to use it to improve their health and fitness. How Much Is Too Much?

How much is too much? Well, too much is too much. Right? Right. What? That doesn't make sense? Actually, that's not surprising. You see, too much is a definition that is one of those elusive things kind of like trying to determine who "they" are when someone says that "they" are about to come out with a new this or that, or maybe that "they" don't like this or that. Who is "they?"

Back to the point. How much is too much? For me, it is when I go beyond the limitations in some aspect of my life. For instance, when eating my "cheat" meal each week, I generally eat "too much." When I spend money, I generally spend "too much." But what about when it comes to our workouts? What is too much then?

The interesting thing is that in the fitness world, we are always doing too much. That is precisely what makes a muscle grow. You have to overload it with what is technically too much weight. The muscle then responds by growing even bigger and stronger. So, already we know that too much may not be set in stone, especially in the gym.

Obviously if you go well into the zone of too much, you risk serious injury. Hopefully common sense will guide us all when it comes to that kind of too much. If not, you probably deserve the pain you will receive. That in itself should serve as a lesson to you. Don't try to lift 500 pounds when you only weigh 100. Get it?

Now, to really complicate things, there is a "too much" that is your best friend. This form of too much is where we step out of our comfort zone and into the "too much" zone. You do it when you go for a big-time job interview. You do it when you step up on stage to deliver a presentation in front of hundreds of people. You are doing too much each time.

Ironically, each time you step out into this too much zone and return to safety, you are always stronger. The same holds true for our fitness quest. You must step out of your comfort zone and into the too much zone and always be challenging yourself. Remember, it will make you stronger. I won't get into the ways that you should look for the "too much" in life or in the gym; I will just say that you should find it. If it's the healthy kind of too much, dive in!

"They" may say too much is not good. I say that the right kind of "too much" is just perfect.

A real life SUCCESS Story!

This is Jim T. He is a 5:30 am Body Transformer who has dedicated himself to changing his life through proper nutrition and exercise. You might say he is "half the man he used to be."

Jim started the Body Transformation in about the middle of 2004. To date he has lost over 130 pounds on the scale while increasing his lean muscle proportionally. In other words, he has probably lost closer to 150 pounds of fat. That is over 525,000 calories of excess fat, gone!

Jim's story is amazing and is a testiment to what a person who makes a decision to change his life can do. I have personally had the pleasure of watching Jim work out each day, nearly without fail. Each day he journals his workout, logs his food and follows the Body Transformation program with tremendous success.

On a personal note, I can say that Jim has been a real model of inspiration to so many. There are many people who workout around Jim and become inspired to go for their own goals. To this day, Jim has lost even more weight than what you see in the picture above.

And no, Jim is not some super athlete with superior genetics. He is just like you or me, -normal. He has a wife, a dog, a house payment and a normal stressful job. Along with that he is very involved in local government serving in several positions that require much of his extra time. Yet, somehow, Jim still finds a way to make it to the gym at 5:30 each morning, he eats properly all day and has become quite the success story!

Congratulations Jim!
