Congratulations to Yi-Chin Chen, winner of the 2011 Hubie Jones Urban Service Award
Hyde Squar e Task Force Deputy Director Yi-Chin Chen has received well deserved recognition from the Boston University Alumni Association Board. Yi Chin has been selected to receive the prestigious 2011 Hubie Jones Urban Service Award. In recognition of Dean Emeritus Hubie Jones, the Hubie Jones Urban Service Award honors a graduate who actively pursues the urban mission and goals of the School of Social Work.
It is no secret to some of us who have worked with Yi Chin for the past several years that very few times in our lives we will have the opportunity to meet and work with someone so intelligent, disciplined, humble, and dedicated as Yi Chin. HSTF is imprinted by Yi Chin's humanity, ethics, and endurance.
Yi Chin says: "I am humbled by the recognition and fully embrace the greater responsibilities that come with the award. I will continue to serve and spread the legacy of Dean Jones. I will accept this award on behalf of the youth, staff, and board of the Hyde Square Task Force as they are my daily inspirations to fight for better lives for those whose voices have yet to be heard."
A bit about Hubie Jones:
Hubert Eugene Jones, better known as"Hubie," shaped and defined the civic and social landscape of Boston for more than forty-five years. After receiving a master's in social work from Boston University, Jones moved through a series of positions in Boston social work agencies. He was the first African American appointed to a deanship at Boston University, serving as the dean of the School of Social Work from 1977 to 1993. Click for full bio.
