Coop Funding
The coop account is an often misused account that
needs to be managed. It should be accessible to the
service and parts manager as well as the general
manager. This will keep the fund honest and used
properly. I have seen some managers use this
account for personnel items such as golf balls, clubs
and jackets. Many times this fund goes unused as
well at a time promotion of fixed operations is needed.
Be sure to check for available body shop promotional
funding as this seems to be the most under used
coop fund of all. One manager received a call stating
he has a $5,000 dollar credit that must be used by the
end of the month. After he received the order when I
was reviewing the account it was negative over
$8,000. Be sure items that are ordered are coop
funded before the funds are spent. The best practice
is to only use vendors that are approved and submit
claims directly.

Greetings!
This month let's look at some ways to develop and
better manage our fixed operations business.

Email Customer Newsletters

All dealerships should be developing email
addresses for every customer. It is a great way to
develop relationships and stay in touch with
customers. This list should be used for company
news and events as well as service specials. It could
also inform customers of recent recalls and provide
maintenance tips. Dealerships today must use every
resource to retain the customer base even after the
warranty expires. There are several low cost programs
available for these newsletters and they don't take
much time to develop. When the cost of direct mails
campaigns is forever on the rise and the internet is
accessed by nearly everyone the future will demand
this action.

Inventory Management in Parts

Everyone is concerned with suppliers controlling more
inventory decisions demanding compliance. These
programs require more investment however will
increase fill rate and technicians hours sold. Several
warehouse distributors are suggesting a software
program that will order from them before ordering
under the manufactures program at a discount. It is
not recommended to use this concept as it will not
protect the dealer's investment in inventory.
