Superstar Technician or Fraud?
When Technicians are performing well above industry
standards it is wise to look and be sure no fraud
exists. Pull Technician performance detail and review
looking for over flagging the repair order. Effective
labor rate tracking is a good place to look for
individual advisor performance. I have seen advisors
over flag repair orders and get cash from the
Technician. In this they do not over bill the customer
just pay the Technician too many hours. Be careful
not to spiff advisors hours per repair averages
without including effective labor rates. This practice
pays the advisor to over pay the Technician and
improve results for themselves. The best way to
cover the bases with advisors incentives is with gross
profit. Any service Technician over 150% productive
should be reviewed as an operating practice.

| Sublet Labor |
| |
Sublet labor can cause losses in gross profit. The
most common areas of sublet are water leaks and
wind noises. Technicians might not like the work so a
call is placed to the water doctor that takes the
gross profit and runs away to the next dealership.
The best practice is to limit sublet and perform all
service operations in house. Develop your staff to
handle every concern of your customers. We need all
the gross that can be developed.
