The Sequoia Project

In early 2012, an ancient giant sequoia succumbed to battering storm winds and blew down in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, about 60 miles northeast of Porterville, CA.

Nearly ALL tree-falls in national parks are left to naturally decay and return to the environment with little or no human intervention.  This giant sequoia fell in a campground.  The US Forest Service deemed the tree-fall an attractive hazard and decided to have it removed for the safety of their park visitors.  To our delight, GL Veneer was granted a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to responsibly recover this  heritage sequoia and create a worthy legacy.

What follows is the first of several articles that will document and establish the provenance of this conservancy.  These articles will document the recovery techniques and how this reclaimed treasure is transformed into items that will live on in tribute to this ancient giant.

We are honored to introduce ... The Sequoia Project

Wooden Ships On the Water
If you get to San Diego, the Maritime Museum of San Diego is building a 16th century full-sized, fully functional, and historically accurate replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's San Salvador, the flagship of the Spanish expedition which first explored what is now the West Coast of the United States.  I visited this site in August 2012 ... AMAZING!!
