This Sunday: Ice Cream Social

I scream, you, scream, we all scream for . . . ICE CREAM!!

On Sunday, August 26th, we will celebrate our first 6pm Student Mass of the academic year at St. Francis Xavier.  We invite you to join us for Liturgy and to remain after for our annual ice cream social that follows on the parish lawn.

The social is an opportunity to learn about the various Campus Ministry groups with which you can become involved.  Groups represented include: Christian Life Communities, Liturgical Ministry, Music Ministry, Pasta and Prayer, Retreats, Hawks for Life, Service Trips, Social events and Miller Service Scholarships.

Question of the Week
question mark Each week, the bulletin will include a question for students. Send your answer to Cindy by noon on Wednesday.  Of those who respond, one will be chosen at random to receive a free (and delicious!) twister from the Pub.  The winner will be announced in the following week's bulletin.

Mass of the Holy Spirit Choir Call!
Holy Spirit

On Tuesday, September 11th, we will gather as the Rockhurst University community to celebrate the beginning of our 2012-13 academic year.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit will begin at 10:45AM at St. Francis Xavier Church, followed by a picnic lunch on Kinerk Commons.

For this annual tradition, we invite students, faculty and staff members who like to sing to join the Rockhurst Community Choir.  It is a great opportunity to meet others you may not know; you certainly do NOT need a trained voice, just a desire to make a "Joyful Noise Unto the Lord"!

We have several choir rehearsals before the Mass, beginning this Monday.  So, if you'd like to participate, please email Maureen Henderson so that she may have a music packet available for you.

The More You Know . . .
Faithful Citizenship

Welcome to our Faithful Citizenship corner!  Voting is both an honor and a privilege, as we are reminded by bishops, women religious orders, catechisms, and papal encyclicals.  To that end, we will highlight one theme of Catholic Social Teaching each week from now until the November Elections as a lens through which we can evaluate candidates and political parties.  While Campus Ministry does not endorse a particular candidate or party, we are here to talk and to provide additional resources - stop by anytime!

Peace,

Bill

P.S.: Following are the deadlines to register to vote.  If your home state isn't listed, you can find the deadline and information on voting here.  GET ON IT!

·         Kansas: October 16

A Prayer
Fall In Love
- Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ,
Former Superior General of the Society of Jesus

Nothing is more practical than finding God,
that is, falling in love in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,

what seizes your imagination,

will affect everything.
It will decide what gets you out of bed in the morning,
what you will do with your evenings,
how you will spend your weekends,
what you read,

who you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in love,

stay in love,

and it will decide everything.
