WELCOME!
From the Director's Desk . . . |
I would like to welcome each of you to the Rockhurst University experience. The Campus Ministry staff looks forward to meeting each of you in the days ahead. No matter what faith you profess, you are welcome to participate in all Campus Ministry programs.
In addition to liturgies and prayer services, we provide many opportunities for you to get connected----retreats, service, CLC's (Christian Life Communities), Pasta & Prayer, Liturgical Ministry, Benediction & Adoration, Students for Life and many more. Several of our programs have been started or become strengthened because of students sharing their ideas. So, we welcome all of your dreams and desires that you bring with you!

My hope and prayer for you is that you will be attentive to God's dynamic action in your life as you start this new chapter in your faith journey!
Blessings,
Maureen Henderson |

Reflection and Discernment:
The Year's Theme |
This year, as a university community, we will engage the value of reflection and discenment in a variety of ways. Like last year, the year's theme will be the topic of weekly email reflections written by students throughout campus. The theme was also used in the selection of the freshman reading book. The book, Wine to Water, is a story of a bartender who uncovered his passion in working to address the world's water crisis.
What is discernment?
- To spend time listening
- To admit we are powerless over our own ability to be certain, to be in control, to have all of the answers
- To set out on a journey with God, confident that we will be cared for, that we will have all we need, that we have nothing to fear (Psalm 23)
- To really live by the choices we make and not allow ourselves to be the victims of circumstance. This means taking responsibility for the direction in our lives, for the decisions we make and not blaming anyone else for our unhappiness
- To actively cooperate with God in co-creating a future full of hope, meaning and promise (Jeremiah 29)
- To be alert, frightened, surprised, joyful and rooted - sometimes all at once!

Teach Me to Listen
- Fr. John Veltri, SJ
Teach me to listen, O God, to those nearest me, my family, my friends, my co-workers. Help me to be aware that no matter what words I hear, the message is, "Accept the person I am. Listen to me." Teach me to listen, my caring God, to those far from me- the whisper of the hopeless, the plea of the forgotten, the cry of the anguished. Teach me to listen, O God my Mother, to myself. Help me to be less afraid to trust the voice inside - in the deepest part of me. Teach me to listen, Holy Spirit, for your voice - in busyness and in boredom, in certainty and doubt, in noise and in silence. Teach me, Lord, to listen. Amen. |
