33 Year Girl Scout Leader Passes Away
at 103
IN MEMORY OF JEAN WAGNER
Mrs. Wagner was one of the founders of the Girl Scout Friendship House in Visalia. Her death came just two weeks short of her 104th birthday. Remembrances may be made in Jean's name to the Girl Scouts of Central California South at 1377 W. Shaw Avenue, Fresno CA 93711

Join Girl Scouts for a preview night (our fall products) at the Corn Maze to learn how the maze is cut and what happens to the corn after October! Learn from local farmers about what it takes to bring food to your table...It's more then you probably think!
$15.00 per person, includes: Hay Ride, Pumpkin Patch, Dinner, Corn Maze and activity booths.
Children 4 and under are free (meal not included).Register by September 19.
TROOPS AND SERVICE UNITS NEEDED -
ACTIVITIES, GAMES, CRAFTS
Girl Scout Service Units and/or Troops are needed to share an activity, game, or craft. Together, let's teach Girl Scouts and their families about the food of our area, known as America's Bread Basket. We can create fun educational activities about food safety, nutrition, and how local farmers bring the foods that we enjoy to our tables. Set up begins at 5:00pm and tear down is at 8:30pm. No electricity is accessible. Troops/Service Units who host booths will receive TWO FREE TICKTETS AND DINNER (includes: a hot dog, chips, and a beverage.) Contact Missy Hinojosa 800-490-8653 X 120.

Alumnae Celebrations
As part of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts, Girl Scout Alumnae (no matter where in the country you participated) are invited to join us in the Anniversary celebrations!
ALUMNAE TEAS
There is no cost to join us for the Alumnae Teas, so there is no good reason to not join us in the celebration! You're welcome to attend any one of the teas in your area or visit them all!

All past or currently registered adult Girl Scouts are invited from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Come to meet other Alumnae in your area, enjoy a wonderful tea complete with scones, share your favorite memories of being a Girl Scout, and see what great things Girl Scouts are doing to serve their community! FRESNO WINE JOURNEY
You must be 21 years of age or older to participate in the Fresno Wine Journey October 29, 12noon to 5:00pm. The cost is $75 per person (Alumnae may invite a guest at $75 each) and includes transportation to and from the Council office to lunch at Milla Vineyards, tastings at three local vineyards, and a donation to the Council for the Girl Scouts Connect Program. Jamboree Helpers Needed
Help make 2012 one of the most memorable years of our girls' lives! Volunteers are needed to help with the 100th Anniversary Jamboree, May 18-20. Individuals and older girl Troops are needed at activity stations and to lead specific committees such as logistics, programs (songs, games, crafts), food, and risk management. The Council wide, three-day event in Tulare, will be successful when volunteers from all parts of the Council participate in some or all of the event options. -Congratulations to Kristina Hernandez who has accepted the position of Membership Development Specialist for Fresno and Madera Counties. Kristina can be reached at 800-490-8653 X 138. Her Service Units are:20, 21, 22, 25, 30, 31, 32, 33, 37.
-We welcome Brenetta Sadakov, our new AmeriCorps VIP member is based at our Fresno office. She can be reached at 800-490-8653 X 132. Brenetta will be working with us for a year to recruit more leaders and other important volunteers in all the counties we serve.

Kid's Cookoff
VISALIA CONVENTION CENTER
This year's fourth Annual Kid's cookoff will be held at the Visalia Convention Center on September 24, during the Visalia Home EXPO and Girl Scouts will be there! "This is an opportunity for kids to provide creative recipes that promote healthy eating, have some fun and learn from professionals during the competition, and win lots of great prizes" says the Show Manager, Steve Tarter. |
Troop Opportunities
KABOOM GRANT
A variety of Kaboom grants are available to individuals and communities to create or improve a playspace in their neighborhood. Spruce grants of $750 each will be awarded to communities who wish to make their existing playgrounds cleaner, safer, and more inviting. This is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts to get together with members of the community and spruce up any local playgrounds! For more information see grants@kaboom.org
TULARE WRITING CONTEST: 4th-12th Grade
The Tulare Historical Museum is sponsoring an essay writing contest for elementary fourth graders all the way through high school seniors to send in their essays for the chance to win cash prizes. The theme is: What I Learned From a Grandparent. One winner, in each of four age categories, will receive $75. The runner-up will receive $25. This contest is free to enter.
