| Women Inspiring Girls Fresno, June 2
The Women Inspiring Girls' Luncheon in Fresno was held June 2, and "honors three dynamic women who have distinguished themselves through exemplary achievements in the community, in their professions, and as role models for girls." They were: Susan Early, Debi Hergenrader, and Sherriff Margaret Mims. The event was held at the Roger Rocka's Theatre.
The Kern Women Inspiring Girls luncheon will be held in Bakersfield October 7, honoring Virginia Moorhouse, Robin Mangarin, and Irma Carson.

Kaiser funds Healthy Eating - Fit for Life
We are very grateful to Kaiser Permanente who has awarded our Council a grant to fund the work of our Outreach Program "Healthy Eating - Fit for Life," serving girls in underserved areas of Fresno, Madera, and Kings Counties. Girl Scouts enjoyed an evening of theatrical fun at the Bakersfield office. Many came in costume and all enjoyed the amazing decor (courtesy of Troop Leader Helen Alanzo) and symbolic surprises at every corner.

Local Scout visits founder's birthplace

Girl Scout Callie from Troop 2719, Service Unit 626, recently visited the birthplace of Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts on the trip with her mother (and Troop Leader) Nancy McCafery. The pair made it a point to visit the historic landmark while in Savannah, Georgia visiting family. "Callie liked that Juliette was an artist and loved touring her home, seeing family portraits and original artwork, including sculptures and metal works," said Nancy.

HEALTHY MEDIA ACT TO FUND GRANTS AND RESEARCH
Actress Geena Davis recently endorsed the "Healthy Media for Youth Act," encouraging healthy media images of women. The bill will provide grants to educate youth about media and fund research about its effects on girls, such as super skinny models, unequal ratio of male vs. female characters (only 27 percent of the speaking characters are female.)
