39 girls from across the nation participate in "Destinations - The California Adventure"
Our Council is hosting 39 Girl Scouts from 21 states and Puerto Rico who are enjoying a ten day California Adventure, exploring the San Joaquin Valley, the Sierra Nevada Mountain Ranges, and the Central California Coastline. From Mountains to Sea is one of several destinations open to Girl Scouts nationally, providing travel opportunities for teens to enjoy new experiences in a safe and supervised environment.The girls have spent an agricultural day in the Valley, visited The Fresno Bee, enjoyed the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, and explored the San Francisco Exploratorium. They white water rafted in Kern County, kayaked at Avila Beach, and had many adventures in between. The trip ends June 30. See the website for more info, including donors.

Add your Troop/Service Unit Events to the 2011/2012 100th Anniversary Calendar of Events APPLICATIONS DUE JULY 6
Troops and Service Units can publicize their planned events for 2011 and 2012, to all GSCCS member households by submitting a Troop/Service Unit Event Application for pre-approval by July 6.
When submitting Applications, include the event title, description (no more than three sentences), dates and times, location, person to contact, and contact information, "register by" date, who can attend, cost, and how to register (phone, online, fax, etc.).

Operation Gratitude art contest - local Girl Scouts make top 10!
Vote on Facebook for Troop 265
Troop 265 from Bakersfield recently submitted artistic drawings for Operation Gratitude's Pictures for Patriots contest. Three pictures from the Troop were among the top 10 chosen. Congratulations to Emily, Hannah, and Megan of Troop 265!
Pictures must be voted on through Operation Gratitude's Facebook page. To vote, click on a picture of your choice and leave a comment. You can only vote once, so please share this with your family and friends. (A "like" does not count as a vote. Be sure to comment on the photo of your choice.) Voting is open through July 3.
Finalists' art will be printed in Operation Gratitude Magazine and will receive other prizes. The top three winners will receive a $500 donation to their school and an iPod. The grand prize winner will be featured on the cover. Stay tuned for winning announcements and cross your fingers for Troop 265!

JOB OPENING: PRODUCT SALES SPECIALIST - BAKERSFIELD
WELCOME NEW FINANCE/ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Chief Financial Officer, Hezron Gurley, introduces Amalia Vareldjian as the new Finance / Accounting Manager. A native of Russia, she is quadrilingual, speaking English, Russian, Armenian, and some Spanish. Amalia has a Business Administration and Accounting degree from CSU Fresno with a minor in Math, and is experienced in both for-profit and non-profit.
Amalia's daughter Anna is a new Brownie. "Girl Scouts is transforming her into a more self-confident, courageous person, who I know she will make a difference in this world," she said.
Hezron comments, "Amalia joined us in May 2011 and will have numerous responsibilities in the accounting area for all of GSCCS. I am happy to have her as a member of the Finance Department and the Girl Scout family."
