Local Scout on national website

For her project, Girl Scout Katie chose to help the puppies and dogs in the adoption center of Valley Animal Center in Fresno. Katie's goal to raise $1,000 to purchase beds was surpassed, raising almost $2,000 outfitting every dog and puppy in the entire adoption center with a Kuranda bed! Congratulations on a spectacular job Katie! Pictured with Katie is Kelly Joos, Kuranda Director of Development

New Journeys curriculum help girls handle peer pressure
Pam Powell, a ten-year leader defines Girl Scouting as an avenue for girls to broaden their point of view so that they are not concerned with just what peers think. Powell's Troop went through the new Girl Scout Journeys "AMAZE" curriculum on relationships, including units on peer pressure, bullying and cyber-bullying. She said the girls learned how to recognize bullying and how to build their self-confidence to counter bullying. "In Girl Scouting, we are putting the emphasis on courage, confidence, and character," said Powell. "We are preventing an 'erosion of character' from the inside out, building them up from the inside, so that they can resist the pressures coming at them from the outside world."
