Help Wanted:

Love our gifts? How cool would it be to see everything as it comes in?

We are currently looking for a part-time

Gift & Card Merchandiser

This is the perfect job for a gift lover who is well organized, self-directed, and creative, with a good eye for displays. This is a part time job, approximately 15 hours per week, with varied hours, including weekends. Please send inquiries to Deb Sundin at deb@wellesleybooks.com.
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children's letters - sometimes very hastily - but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, "Dear Jim: I loved your card." Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, "Jim loved your card so much he ate it." That to me was one of the highest compliments I've ever received. He didn't care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."    ~Maurice Sendak   (June 10, 1928 - May 8, 2012)

Books We Recommend

So many new books, so little time! Jump right into the good ones with our recommendations:
The Uninvited Guests The Uninvited Guests
bySadie Jones
For fans of the Downton Abbey time period and "of the manor born" style, this is a quirky, fun read. We are invited to a birthday party that has many twists and delightful turns. Some of us are invited - but what to do with the uninvited guests?
The Lifeboat The Lifeboat
by Charlotte Rogan

Grace is one of 39 passengers who escape a sinking ocean-liner onto an overcrowded lifeboat. On trial for murder as a result of her own choices, Grace describes the best and worst of human behavior under desperate conditions.

The Sisters Brothers The Sisters Brothers
by Patrick deWitt

I laughed out loud at the humor in the terse philosophical musings and staccato banter between two brothers, hired guns, on a manhunt across the California Gold Country. This modern take on the traditional Western novel is a fun, but substantive, read. If you liked True Grit (book or movie) you'll enjoy this. Winner of the 2012 Tournament of Books and a Booker Prize finalist.

The Collected Stories of Jean Stafford The Collected Stories of Jean Stafford
by Jean Stafford

Since there was no Pulitzer for fiction this year, it seemed like a good time to look at past winners who may be less widely read today.  Halfway through this rich collection of stories I'm amazed at how easily Jean Stafford switches between settings and moods.  You can listen to one of her most unnverving stories, "The Interior Castle," at Miette's Bedtime Story Podcast.  In contrast, all of the stories about young Americans in Europe had me laughing out loud.  She has to be one of the most versatile short story writers ever.

A wonderful cast of characters with names like Moses(Mo), Dale Earnhardt, Lavender Shade and Grandmother Miss Lacy Thornton add to the charm of this great story set in the small town of Tupelo Landing, NC.
