Happy Leap Day - one more day in the year to enjoy good books. And we have Spring Ahead to look forward to on Sunday, March 11th. Our daffodils are already peeking their heads out by our back stairs. If the weather forecast is right, they will be peeking up through the snow!
Charles Dickens would be pleased! This year marks the 200th anniversary of his birth, and we are partnering with the Wellesley Players to pay him tribute. The Wellesley Players will present a costumed sneak preview from their spring musical Oliver! at Wellesley Books on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:30pm. Key cast members will be performing musical numbers of the songs you love along with scenes from the show. This event is free and open to the public, although space is limited. (Fun is unlimited.) First come, first served.

Defending Jacob by William Landay
When a local boy is found murdered in the woods adjoining the middle school in a Boston suburb, Assistant DA Andy Barber steps in to lead the investigation. In a shocking turn of events, his son is accused of the murder. What follows is Andy's struggle to balance family loyalty and justice in a time of crisis. William Landay is a master at unfolding this unforgettable tale with a zinger of an ending. Even better, he came in the store to sign copies of his bestseller!

The Mirage by Matt Ruff
When this book opens with Christian terrorists crashing planes into the World Trade Towers in Baghdad on 11/9/2001, we know Ruff has dropped us straight into an alternate reality that's a bit like a hall of fun-house mirrors. Ruff rewrites our world history, staying true to real world personalities and geography, but with the overall question: how would the world look if the tables were turned? A fascinating read that will have you dwelling on Ruff's ideas long after you've read the last page.

Pulse: Stories by Julian Barnes
These are moving stories about relationships, and what makes couples tick. Many of them are tales of loss, but with flickers of bittersweet humor. A beautiful collection by a master storyteller.

Randy Riley's Really Big Hit by Chris Van Dusen Who else but Chris Van Dusen, author of If I Built A Car and The Circus Ship, could create a fast-paced rhyming picturebook that involves baseball, robots and outer space? Big bold illustrations enhance the appeal of this fun new read aloud! Chopsticks by Amy Krouse Rosenthal Marilyn saw an advanced read of Chopsticks and could not wait until it arrived on our shelves. She loved Spoon and thinks that this follow up is just as delightful. She raves: "The message of strength together as well as separately is a subtle bonus." Charmingly illustrated, this tale of friendship will have you giggling over the culinary puns. Same Sun Here by Silas House and Neela Vaswani What could Meena, an Indian immigrant girl living in New York, possibly have in common with River, a basketball-playing boy from a small Kentucky town? To start, their willingness to participate in a pen pal project at school where they will write letters instead of emails. Through their correspondence, we learn that they have even more in common and we get to watch their friendship blossom. A touching, thought-provoking read! The Boy on Cinnamon Street by Phoebe Stone Louise is struggling to keep things together. She's quit the gymnastics team, is living with her grandparents and has blocked out memories of her Mom. The one bright spot is the cheerful notes she's been getting from a secret admirer. What will trigger her memories and help her get back on track? This bittersweet story will tug at your heart.

We have a new line of fun earrings in the store that come in lots of different styles, from pandas to flamingos, cupcakes to sock monkeys. They are bright, colorful and light - the perfect accessory to make you smile.
We seem to have an invasion of small, pastel creatures in the store. I think the Easter bunny is sneaking in some basket stuffers to get us in a hoppity mood. You have to try out the pink flipping bunny. He (she?) is guaranteed to make you smile.

Hudson is an almost 2-year-old therapy dog. He stopped in the store on his way home from work visiting patients at the Metro West Medical Center.
After I gave him his treat for posing so patiently, his owner then proceeded to walk him through his fabulous bag of tricks! He backed up, laid down, grovelled (crawl forward on his belly) and then dropped to the floor and rolled on his back when she said BANG! It was awesome. I really love my job!
