Change of Plans!  We WILL be open this Sunday  and, there will be UBC buybacks (from 1-5 pm), as usual.

Big Nate on a RollFirst up on our busy September events calendar, we welcome writer/cartoonist Lincoln Peirce, creator of the Big Nate comic strip. Lincoln will be at the Wellesley Free Library on Friday, September 9th at 4:00 pm, to talk about the third novel in his hilarious Big Nate book series! He'll be giving a drawing demo, explaining cartooning tools and vocabulary, and talking about how he puts together stories for his books!

Our book-signing visit with Elin Hilderbrand had to be postponed until next Thursday, September 1st at 5 pm. If you can't make the event, we're always happy to have a book personalized for you. Just come by or contact the store and we'll arrange it: (781) 431-1160.

Are you in a bookclub? Then we want to know what you are reading! We are planning a display of great book club picks, and would like to include your selection. Please send us an email with your upcoming title(s).

It's not too late to grab your school summer reading books. Middle school titles are on display in the kids' section at the back of the store, and high school titles are up front by the register. We make it easy for you to get reading! Here is Guinness, doing his WHS summer reading.  He'll be taking Honors Junior English in the fall, so he has to read 1984, by George Orwell.

Everyone stay safe with the upcoming hurricane. Make sure you have plenty of books to read!

Books We Recommend

There are many new books coming out this season, and we will steer you towards the ones you won't want to miss. Here are some new titles we are recommending:
  • Sally & Betty recommend

Rules of CivilityRules of Civility
by
Amor Towles

Manhattan, 1938, is the setting for this wonderfully satisfying tale of the rich -- and the not so rich! Amidst the glitter of New York are some unforgettable characters and a story that dazzles and lingers. We couldn't put it down.

  • Kym recommends

The Magician KingThe Magician King
by
Lev Grossman

In this long-awaited sequel to The Magicians, we follow Quentin as he begins an epic quest to the furthest reaches of Fillory, his magical kingdom. A sort of Harry Potter for adults, with some fun homages to great fantasy literature.

  • Margaret recommends
Hotel BosphorusHotel Bosphorus
by Esmahan Aykol

I love this mystery set in Istanbul, with a smart, feisty, bookselling heroine. Kati Hirschel is a German woman who runs the only mystery bookstore in Istanbul. When a high school friend who has become a famous movie star comes to film in Istanbul, Kati is plunged into a murder mystery that features a sexy Turkish police inspector, a group of courteous gangsters, and her own collection of eccentric friends. Funny, absorbing, and a little bit racy, this book is full of wry observations about Turkish society and politics.

  • Rebecca recommends
The Disappearing SpoonThe Buddha in the Attic
by Julie Otsuka

In this beautifully-written novel, we follow a group of young Japanese brides from their arrival in 1900's San Francisco to their lives at the start of World War II. Essential reading for anyone who loved
Otsuka's When the Emperor Was Divine (or her recent story that aired on Selected Shorts).

  • Back to School

We know what kids love most about school - lunch! We have fun and colorful lunch sacks, reusable sandwich and snack bags, and stainless steel insulated food jars. My favorite lunchbox as a kid was a blue Snoopy one that had a thermos for soup. We don't have Snoopy, but we have ladybugs, trucks, and space monsters!

We still have some fabulous finds at our 75%-off sidewalk sale.  Don't miss out!
