Our busy September events calendar will kick off with a bang when we welcome writer/cartoonist Lincoln Peirce, creator of the Big Nate comic strip. Lincoln will be at the Wellesley Free Library on Friday, September 9th at 4:00pm to talk about the third novel in his hilarious book series about Big Nate himself! He'll be giving a drawing demo, explaining cartooning tools and vocabulary, and talking about how he puts together stories for his books!
Wellesley Books will be closed on Sunday, August 28th for an employee appreciation day. Our website is always open -- with great bookseller recommendations -- and you can order on the website and pick it up in the store, or have it shipped to you. We apologize for any inconvenience!
Our new tote bags with our beautiful new logo are here! Where has YOUR tote gone this summer? Email us a picture and we will include it in our newsletter and on Facebook ! If you haven't picked one up yet, they are $7.95 or free with a purchase of $150 or more.
It's not too late to grab your school summer reading books. Middle school titles are on display in the kids' section at the back of the store, and high school titles are up front by the register. We make it easy for you to get reading! Congratulations to Tomie dePaola for winning the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for Lifetime Achievement. To celebrate, Tomie invited librarians and booksellers to a celebratory brunch at his house in New Hampshire. Our own Allison, Margaret and Lisa were among those invited. Here they are gathered in the gazebo. (Thanks to Elizabeth Bluemle of The Flying Pig Bookstore for the photo.) Elizabeth wrote a fabulous blog post about the day, with photos of Tomie's amazing house and grounds in New Hampshire.

This is our last newsletter featuring titles from our annual Summer Reading Booklets. Hard to believe summer is wrapping up! It's hard to believe that summer is wrapping up! We still have a few current treasures to share, but we'll be recommending our favorite, hotly-anticipated new fall titles starting with our next newsletter.
If you would like to peruse the entire summer list, we have posted them on our website - adults and kids. You can either order books online and have them shipped to you, or choose a Google eBook format and download them instantly. Either way, you are supporting your local independent bookstore. Happy reading!

The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean
The Periodic Table is a crowning scientific achievement, but it's also a treasure trove of adventure, betrayal, and obsession. These fascinating tales follow every element on the table as they play out their parts in human history, and in the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.
