Parent Teacher Home Visit Project Updates from around the Nation

June 2012
Issue 2-2

Greetings!

As we near the end of the 2011-2012 school year, it is time to celebrate the amazing home visit growth that has taken place across the country! We've partnered together in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Virginia and the District of Columbia. We will be expanding this summer into Washington and New York. We have also seen a significant increase in the number of districts that are participating with multiple sites- especially in Colorado, Washington DC, Massachusetts and California. It has also been an extraordinary year for media coverage - the links to which can be found on our website.

In May, we started the formalization of our national network by launching a National Advisory Committee who met in Denver. The committee is working on formal recommendations on infrastructure and resources for the PTHVP Board. Please mark your calendars for our 6th Annual National PTHVP Conference October 25-28, 2012, in Denver Colorado.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the stories we have to share. You will have a chance to hear from colleagues in Massachusetts and California as parents and teachers come together in new and unique ways to better serve our children. There is nothing like the power of testimony and experience to motivate us to keep growing and thinking of next steps in this important movement.

Sincerely,

Carrie Rose, Executive Director

Teacher Talk:

At Oak Ridge Elementary in Sacramento, the staff believes that family engagement is the key to improving the school community and the successes of all their students. It is for this reason that the educators continue to build positive relationships with their students through the Home Visit Project. Read their story here.
