Comprehensive and Collaborative

For more than fifty years, SRPEDD has been the only regional organization in Southeastern Massachusetts charged with thinking comprehensively about transportation, economic development, land use, and environmental stewardship.  These diverse, interrelated tasks take place at 88 Broadway in Taunton, MA, where our 26 staff members strive - in collaboration with state, regional, and local partners - to create efficient roads, thriving businesses, and safe and clean communities.

More recently, SRPEDD has assumed the responsibility of trying to foster regional collaborations for municipal services and providing administrative support for the 96-community homeland security region.
Our new electronic newsletter is designed to provide you with current information about  SRPEDD's work within our 27 municipalities and throughout Southeastern Massaschusetts.   Please note the many links, documents, and quizzes within this newsletter - and enjoy!

2011 Regional Transportation Plan tplan

The next edition of SRPEDD's newsletter will highlight the 2011 Regional Transportation Plan (fondly known as the "T-Plan").
Every four years, SRPEDD conducts an assessment of our transportation infrastructure - including the costs inherent to maintaining a safe and efficient system into the future.  This assessment and its corresponding proposals and recommendations make up the bulk of the T-Plan.
The 2011 document will outline the changes necessary to adapt to a sustainable future that addresses the needs of today while ensuring our ability to maintain the system tomorrow.
Each chapter will look at important issues facing this region - including sustainability and livability, traffic congestion and 'bottlenecks', the need for the South Coast Rail project, and traffic safety.  The plan will also speak to reducing greenhouse gases, promoting alternative transportation modes, and supporting smart growth within our cities and towns.
Additionally, the T- Plan supports the integration of transportation with comprehensive planning and economic development.  It advocates for pedestrian- and transit-friendly development with increased housing and employment densities in Priority Development Areas (PDA) and around transit stations.  Similarly, it supports Priority Protection Areas (PPA) to safeguard farms, ecosystems, and open space.
Please keep an eye out for our next newsletter and the T-Plan.  We'll be looking for your feedback.

Interactive Mappingmapping

Signalized Intersection Map Online

SRPEDD has recently launched an interactive map of the signalized intersections within its region.  This technique - using Google Earth Maps - is now featured on the SRPEDD website.  The map itself depicts level of service (LOS), volume, accident, and delay data as well as general information and Pictometry images (aerials) for 355 intersections.  SRPEDD plans to make many similar interactive maps available in the months to come.

Please visit SRPEDD's website to download the map and explore the intersection nearest you!  Once you open the map in Google Earth, you will find step-by-step instuctions on how to use it.  Enjoy exploring the first of many interactive maps.
